The smell of mildew was fresh and the sun peeked over the horizon again. As soon as Sol's group made it out of the woods, they were greeted by a field of sunflowers, reminding them what time of year it was. The festival was always celebrated during the transition between spring and summer. Seeing these flowers bloom now reminded Sol of how long he's been gone from Luminar for.
Just at the end of the field was the wall they had to climb over. William untangled his rope and they all started walking through the field of yellow petals. "So I just have to toss this rope over that wall? I think I can do that." William said as they approached. The wall had to be at least 80 feet tall. The entire structure also looked like it was made from ragged cobblestone.
"Don't be stupid, you wont be able to throw that far." Ella said. "We're going to need someone to free climb up there and tie the rope to something." Lilac said. That's when Ella gave Sol a huge devious grin. "Does that remind you of anything?" She told him. Sol could already tell what she wanted to say.
They were both reminded of the time when Sol had to climb out of the Mole-Spider's sinkhole in order to just retrieve a rope. "Yeah I got this." Sol rolled his eyes and took the rope from William. He tied the rope around his waist so he could freely use his hands to climb the wall.
"I don't want any of you tugging on the rope. I'd rather not fall." He nervously told them all after he settled his foot on the first ragged rock. "Don't worry, I'll summon a giant flower for you to cushion your fall if you slip." Mari said. Sol wasn't too sure how well that would work but decided to not take his chances. He slowly made his ascent and climbed with one hand and foot after the other.
The young prince greatly underestimated the climb. His palms clenched tighter whenever he would look down. He felt like his own sweat would make him slip and that would be the end of it. Just one tug from the other end could mark his end. At this point he was also hoping that the rope would be long enough to reach the top.
Sol was nearly toward the top and he couldn't stop thinking about how it could all go wrong. When he finally climbed on top of the wall and over the railing he was rewarded with a short rest and some relief. He was now on the border between the capital and the rest of the kingdom and on both sides were railings to keep the archer's from falling off.
Sol took the rope from his waist and tied it to the railing. He gave it a quick tug to make sure it wouldn't come loose. That's when Sol waved at everyone from above, letting them all know he was done. The first one to start climbing up was Brook, followed by Ella, Lilac, Jordan, and then William. When they all got to the top, they could see Mari start making her way towards the front gate as planned.
"Did you remember to give her a map?" Jordan asked Brook. "I did. She should be fine getting around by herself." Brook said. "I hope she'll be ok." Ella said, watching her teacher walk through the sunflower field. "Don't worry about her right now. Just stick with me and we'll be alright." Lilac said.
There were a few towers attached to the wall that stuck inward toward and inside the capital. Each one had a stairway leading back down to the ground that led to the streets. This was also where the archer's kept their supplies. An idea came to Brook and he looked at Jordan for a suggestion. "If you ever need any more arrows for your quiver those towers should have boxes full of them. Try not to get caught."
"Thanks." Jordan said before Brook started handing each person a map. Jordan handed William the stick of dynamite and looked at Lilac and handed Crystal's sword to her. "Make sure to give this back to Crystal when you find her." He said. "Will do." "Alright let's move." Sol said. Jordan made his way to one of the towers to their left while everyone else made their way to the other tower on the right. It was time for everyone to split up as much as they possibly could.
