Raven's POV
Jax had been avoiding me lately. I guess that was a good thing, but I felt more alone than ever. Venus and the other girls tried to befriend me and I appreciated their efforts, but I just didn't fit in with them. They all had a life outside of Jax's, but Jax's was the only thing I had.
"Raven, we're going out for pizza. Do you want to come with us?" Pixie asked sweetly.
"No thanks," I said giving her s polite smile. She nodded and joined the other girls.
I sat at the bar looking at the empty building. I couldn't help but to think of Shannon and Daisy. Wherever they were I hope they're happy. It was my own fault that I was stuck here wishing for the life that I could have had.
Shannon and I could have been happy, but I ruined it. I could be wrapped securely in his arms right now, but I denied myself that pleasure.
I built my walls so high and so thick, and I had been behind them for so long, it kept me from seeing an ally. Someone who never wanted to hurt me. Someone who only wanted to love me.
My mind kept telling me all men are evil. That the only want to use me, and there was no such thing as love or compassion in their eyes. And yet, that one night. That one with Shannon I had seen something I didn't recognize in his eyes. I was too stupid to know what it was.
At the auction when he came to me, there was that same thing, but I was to furious at the time to notice it.
I felt a hand gently touch my shoulder. I turned to see Jax standing next to me. He nodded toward his office, and I took his hand and followed him.
"Talia has quit, so I was wondering if you'd like to take her place," Jax said sitting down at his desk and rummaging through a stack of papers.
"Did she say why?"
He sighed and shrugged. "Something like she couldn't put up with my 'brainwashing bullshit'. "
I didn't say anything.
Jax looked up at me. "This is a big decision. I get it, but I need to know now."
I shook my head, but stepped closer to him. "Jax, can we-"
"I'm busy," he said coldly.
I nodded and left room. I was completely alone. I called Talia but got her voicemail.
Hi, this is Talia. Sorry I can't come to the phone right now, but Haiden and I are on vacation. Leave a message after the beep.
"Talia, its Raven. I just wanted to call and see how things are going. Jax told me you quit. I wish you hadn't. I miss you. Bye." I hung up the phone. I never felt so numb.
I left the nightclub and started walking. I didn't know where I was going. I walked aimlessly for an hour and finally stopped when I saw it. The apartment that haunted my dreams every night for four years of my life.
