Shortly after health class ended, Leilani prepared to pack her folder when she overheard Jenny talking to three other students who sat around her desk."What do you think happened to Sydney Novak?", a girl asked.
"I heard she went missing", another girl said.
"Yeah, but where do you think she went?"
"Why should that be important anyway?", a boy chimed in. "I mean, didn't she make out with Brad's girlfriend".
"Oh, right"
"Who cares? She was a freak anyway", Jenny scoffed.
"Shut the fuck up!", Stanley snapped. It was enough to Leilani's attention. Jenny turned to the Barber boy, narrowing her eyes. "You didn't even know her. None of you did".
"So, what's your point, Barber?", Jenny challenged.
"My point is that you have a lot of fucking nerve saying that after what you did"
Before Jenny could come up with the next thing to say, the teacher walked in. "Is there a problem here?", he questioned. Stanley quietly stormed out of the room. Concerned, Leilani got up and followed behind him. "He's just missing the other half of his throuple", Jenny snickered.
"Fuck off, Jenny", Leilani retorted.
Leilani found Stanley sitting by the tree in the courtyard, staring off into space. She quietly sat next to him, sharing the same silence. Even though he didn't say anything, she could easily read his stone-faced expression and knew that it was one of silent anger and longing for his missing friend.
"People suck", Leilani stated.
"Yeah", he sighed.
She played Bloodwitch's "Fly" on her phone. She took her left earbud and handed it to him. Stanley silently took it and pressed it against his left ear. It was a moment where he was grateful for Leilani because he was glad that he had someone who understood what he was going through. She rested her head on his shoulder as they continued to listen to the song.

After school, Stanley drove him and Leilani home in his dad's car. They sat on Stanley's porch while Leilani strummed her ukulele. "I don't think we've been on a second date yet", he said.
"I'm sure we have", she replied.
"No, we haven't".
Then, Leilani occurred to her that the only official date they went on was the homecoming dance. "I guess you're right", she said.
"We could plan something this weekend", he proposed. "I know this week has been...a lot. I just figured it would be best to not think about it for a little while"
"I totally get it", Leilani told him in a sincere tone.
"First, I'm thinking about going bowling. I'm off this weekend anyway".
"I think I like that".
"Then, maybe, we can have a movie marathon in my basement, and I promise to only pick the weirdest flicks. Your choice for the first one?"
"Alright! But only if I get to bring my galaxy blanket"
"Deal", he laughed. Leilani extended her pinkie, indicating a pinkie swear. He linked his pinkie with hers. She was glad that he seemed to be in better mood than before. She picked up her ukulele and started playing Bloodwitch's "Gotta Have Soul" while Stanley sat back and listened.
Then, it was finally time for Leilani to go back home. She picked up her ukulele and Stanley followed her down the porch steps.
"So, it's a date?", asked Stanley.
She said it's a date
"It's a date", Leila declared.
"Awesome", he smiled. He leaned forward and kissed her forehead before she dispersed.
