069.2- IT IS ALWAYS DARKEST BEFORE THE DAWN

NICOLLIEN

The blade of her silver dagger felt cold and penetrating against my skin as she slashed out the pool of warm, metallic red liquid from my very flesh. She seemed like an expert at carrying the weapon that it somehow reminded me of a skilled bladesmith dancing with his creations of steel infront of the crimson embers of a coal-colored forge.

This girl can definitely wield a dagger.

"Are you really that determined to kill me, my lady?", the mockery from my voice echoed across the temple halls as the sound of our ruckus yet again shook its ancient corinthian columns that were almost crumbling into dust after withstanding its age.

"I'm doing this for my people, Niles.", she claimed before advancing to land another attack on me again. I quickly dodged her interceptable attempt before meeting her eyes that reflected the very birth of the spring season.

"What if I tell you that I can save you and your people? Will you still have the heart to kill me, then?", I tried to convince her. Napansin ko ang ilang sandaling pagbagal ng mga kilos niya na para bang naapektuhan siya sa mga sinabi ko kaya ginamit ko kaagad ang pagkakataong iyon para agawin sa kanya yung dagger as I threw it to the opposite side of the room before pinning her to the ground.

"My lady, listen to me---"

"No! You don't understand how grave the situation is, Niles. He will never let you take Delphi from his control!", she forewarned me while still struggling to get away. I didn't let her though, and instead, mas hinigpitan ko pa ang pagkakahawak sa kanya dahilan para mapadaing ulit siya.

"Who, Calais? Who won't let me?", I asked to confirm. Gusto kong marinig mula mismo sa kanya kung sino ang kakalabanin ko.

"Python.", she stated the name like it brought a terrible curse upon her. I can even tell how deeply she despised the strange creature with just the vision of flames that reflected from her eyes.

Totoo nga ang sinabi ng mga mamamayan ng Delphi. Their oracle's being forced under Python's grasp.

"He knew I was coming, didn't he? Did he also order you to dispose of me?", tanong ko ulit. Kaagad naman na napaiwas nang tingin si Calais sakin.

"Yes."

"That's why you need to get out, Niles, before---", she wasn't able to finish her words. As if on cue, bigla nalang yumanig ang bundok bago ito sinundan ng isang nakakapanindig-balahibong hiyaw na halatang nagmula sa halimaw na siyang kakalabanin ko. Python.

"N-Niles, what are you doing?! Put me down! Python will be furious once he finds out that I left the temple!", sunod-sunod na apila ang ginawa ni Calais nang bigla ko siyang binuhat sa mga bisig ko.

"I don't care. I gave my word to your people that I'll save Delphi from Python's cruelty... and that includes you too. So stop fighting and come with me.", I immediately summoned my pair of wings when I finally got to the temple's entrance.

The chilling breeze of the dark and snowy night greeted me as the freezing cold winds blew against my skin like hot knives cutting into a fresh piece of meat. The silence surrounding the mountain after the violent trembling earlier was haunting.

"Y-You're gonna fly down Mt. Parnassus? But the temperature here in the summit's freezing! Your wings will break---"

"I am aware of the consequences, my lady. Unfortunately, there is no other way of saving us time for the journey back down the mountain. I'll just have to endure it for now. Let's go, before that monster comes back.", I reasoned out before stretching my wings to begin our journey back.
