006-THE GRAY WOMEN

I took a deep breath and stared at my reflection in the full-length mirror.

Light-grey long-sleeved shirt tucked neatly into high-waist black jeans, white sneakers, and my long, ombre-silver hair tied high in a ponytail, with a bit of loose strands framing my face. Should I cut it? I guess, nah.

I turned to my bed, where Mageia and Kratos lounged, watching me with that curious, intelligent gaze that only wolves could pull off. "Do I look okay?" I asked them as I gestured at myself, na para bang maiintindihan nila ako.

To my surprise, they answered me with a short, approving howl before coming over to lick my hand. "Thanks," I mumbled awkwardly, scratching behind their ears.

Maybe they did understand me. Or maybe they just wanted breakfast?

My gaze dropped to the borrowed black backpack I'd stuffed with everything I could possibly need. And it had been a challenge cramming supplies for a two-week quest into a single bag.

Kai and Sev had shown up here in the House of Hecate at two in the morning, unannounced. And somehow, despite Mageia and Kratos' reputation for disemboweling intruders, Kai had strolled right in, ruffling their fur like some dark canine whisperer. Must be a son of Hades thing.

They'd laid out the rules-one backpack, no extra baggage, no summoning wolves unless absolutely necessary.

Hindi manlang ako nakapalag sa kanya. Figured there was no use arguing with someone who could probably summon an army of dead wolves if he felt like it.

Halos mapatalon naman ako sa gulat nang biglang kumalabog ang pintuan pabukas, before Kai and Sev just strode in without warning like they owned the place. Again.

Kai, predictably, was covered head-to-toe in black, the only exception? His white sneakers. Sev's look was more relaxed-denim jeans, plain white shirt, and a smirk as sharp as any blade. Both of them had that same effortless confidence.

I frowned.

Damn, their outfits were too simple but how did they make it look like they were modeling famous brands on a men's fashion magazine?

Oh right. They're half-god for crying out loud, Ahlkria.

"Good morning to you, too," sarkastikong bati ko sa kanilang dalawa bago sila inikutan ng mata. "Ever heard of knocking? It's this ancient mortal tradition. Very popular."

Sev's eyes flicked over me with a mischievous glint before crossing his arms. "We knocked," inikutan niya rin ako ng mata pabalik. "You just didn't hear it over the sound of your self-criticism."

I scoffed. "At paano kung naabutan niyo akong nakahubad at nagbibihis dito?"

Sev's grin widened. "Then I'd be thankful to my mother for the gift of sight."

Kaagad ko siyang binatukan. "Gago, bastos ka!" singhal ko.

Tumawa ulit siya bago humingi nang pasensya. I just sneered at him.

Meanwhile, Kai plopped down on my bed, unbothered by my wolves who eyed him with something akin to wolfish admiration. "You should lock your door. Would've kept out intruders like me, and idiots like him," he added, shooting a glare at Sev.

I shot one right back at him. "Or maybe, you should learn how to knock, Lord of the Dead Jr." asar ko. Kai immediately threw me a look full of warning kaya bigla akong kinabahan. Uh-oh, wrong move, Kria!
