005- SCION OF THE UNDERWORLD

"You should take the rest of the day off, Kria. Alam naming mabigat ang loob mo sa sinabi ni Sir Pyro kanina sa Hall of Weapons. Don't worry, we'll inform Goddess Eunomia and the other professors about your absence. Forcing yourself to attend class while you're this distracted won't do you any good. You won't be able to focus, and honestly? It'll just be a waste of time. Believe me, I've been through that before. We'll see you later at the Banquet Hall for supper. Try to get some rest, or at least clear your mind."

That was Rae's reminder before the girls walked me back to the House of Hecate.

Now, I found myself sprawled on an extravagant couch in the massive living room with Mageia and Kratos resting their heads on my lap as if they, too, felt the weight of the day.

My gaze drifted upward, locking onto the towering statue of my mother, the goddess Hecate, positioned above the grand fireplace—her altar. Every house in the academy had one, a sacred place where we offered gifts and prayers to our divine parents in hopes of receiving their support, luck, or blessings. Or so they say.

I let out a deep sigh, absentmindedly running my fingers through Mageia and Kratos' fur. "First day of school really sucks, Mom," I muttered. The flickering fire beneath her statue almost made it look as if she was really listening to me.

I huffed. Yeah, right.

I was still in my uniform, at halos mag-aanim na oras na rin ako ritong nakatitig sa statue ni mom, o di kaya'y kinakausap ang sarili ko na parang baliw.

"Nakaka-depress talaga yung nangyari kanina!" I exclaimed in frustration before ruffling my hair as I leaned my head against the couch, blankly staring at the tall ceiling.

"I need a nap," I finally decided, still talking to myself after a while of feeling like crap. I started to feel a bit drowsy from my frustration.

Mageia and Kratos shifted on the couch beside me, making space as I let myself collapse onto it with a sigh. I just needed a quick nap—maybe, as Rae suggested, it would actually help ease my mind.

***

I was jolted awake by a sudden series of knocks on the door. At first, I thought I was dreaming—or maybe my imagination was just messing with me—so I shut my eyes again, determined to ignore it.

Until—

"Kria! Sina Prim 'to! We're here to escort you to supper!"

Mabilis pa sa alas kwatro akong napabalikwas nang bangon pagkatapos kong marinig at makumprima ang boses ni Prim na siyang tumatawag sa'kin mula sa labas ng House of Hecate.

The moment the doors swung open, I was met with six pairs of wide, horrified eyes.

Prim, Rae, and Pen stood frozen, while Aeo, Rios, and Sev looked like they'd just witnessed something traumatic.

Sev, in particular, went rigid before immediately averting his gaze, his jaw tightening as if resisting the urge to say something.

Well, at least Rios and Sev had recovered from their injuries after their match earlier. They looked perfectly fine now, though their current expressions suggested I was the one in critical condition. Ano ba ang nangyayari sa kanila?

Then, not even a minute later, Rios, ever the dramatic one, suddenly exclaimed, "Who assaulted you in there?!"

And that's when it hit me.

"H-Holy Hecate!" I gasped, slamming the door in their faces.

I bolted as fast as could towards the nearest full-length mirror, praying to all the gods that my reflection wouldn't be as bad as I feared.
