CALISTA SAVAS

It had been a while since Calista and the group arrived at St. Sarah's church. Everyone had been resting after their long journey on the road. Everyone besides Calista. Calista was beyond exhausted at this point, but she couldn't find a suitable spot, no matter how many times her eyes fluttered shut. It was like she was incapable of resting.

Carl was perched in the pew next to her with the child he was caring for beforehand. The two teenagers completely avoided contact with one another, the only interaction between them being the exchange of smiles.

Her body chilled at the sound of Rick's voice shouting her name. She had heard him and the other adults conversing, but she was too drowsy to hear what they were discussing.

She stood up from the mildly uncomfortable wooden pew and proceeded towards Rick. "Calista, we're going on a run, and I would like you to come with us." She peered at him, dumbfounded. She knew that she could handle whatever was bound to happen, but why her? There were plenty of other adults capable of attending, so why take a child?

"Rick, she's just a kid. I can watch her here, along with Carl and Judith." Tyreese proposed, trying to be reasonable. Calista shifted her eyes back to Rick, trying to read the expression on his face. Rick seemed to be the type to not let anyone cross him, not even his own group members, but he had a look of agreement smeared onto his features. Tyreese's proposal was perceptive. Calista was only a kid, and that run was probably full of hazards. Hazards even for the adults.

"Fine," Rick spoke, as he pulled Tyreese aside. Whispers and nods were exchanged, and Tyreese snuck a nod towards Calista, confirming that she was indeed not attending with the others.

Calista wandered back over to the uncomfortable pew and sat down. She turned her head distinctly towards Carl, debating on whether she should go speak actual words to him.

She decided not to when she witnessed Rick kneeling in front of the younger boy. Calista tried not to eavesdrop, but she couldn't help but to feel extremely curious of the topic in which were discussing.

The group did indeed end up leaving the church, which left her and Carl alone, together. Calista had to admit, it was quite unsettling. The two of them only sat a few feet away from each other, yet they had not acknowledged each other physically.
