Misfortune is like an unwelcome guest. They show up out of the blue.
"They're our family, so someone in the family should raise them."
"It's not like you're going to volunteer. It's not easy to raise someone else's children."
"She has a point."
"They shouldn't grow up walking on eggshells. Why don't we just send them to an orphanage..."
"Ssshh! They'll hear you."

This is why I only consider my auntie the only family I have left. My brother and I trust her just as much as we did with our parents.
"What about Cate?"
"She's on her way."
"She's coming from Pennsylvania. It will take her some time."
"You think having her would make any difference? No matter how much she loved her sister, I doubt that a single woman like her would raise two kids on her own."
"It will be harder to let them go after getting attached to them. For the sake of their future, sending them to an orphanage is the best option."
"As if! You're only thinking about yourselves, not the kids!"
My auntie's presence was known after raising her voice to my other relatives who kept on going about where my own brother and I belong.
Even good fortunes don't come to us with a gentle knock.
A glance of her beloved twin's grave she fastly came to us, embracing the both of us in each arm caressing the back of our heads gently. "I'm taking the kids." Her voice was strong and not hesitant. She sounded just like our mother.
"What in the world?!"
"You're not even married!"
"She's right. I understand that you care for them deeply-"
"I'M GOING TO RAISE THEM!" She yelled at my other uncles and aunts.
Her angered tone scared my brother, making him begin to cry. She tried her best to comfort him and I at the same time. Seeing her on the verge of tears with a smile on her face broke me.
