"Where do you think they go when they die?" I asked you.
"They go to Court with The Great Leader." You smiled at me patting my head and rubbing my shoulders.
My parents had just been taken from Sir and their trial had ended but I never saw or heard from them ever again. I was told my parents had gone to sleep.
I went to stay with you and your parents. I was ten at the time. A year later exactly your parents were taken but we didn't know that yet though.
You took on the role of best friend and older sibling. You helped me stay on a normal schedule. You entertained me day in and day out to keep my mind off of what was going on around us but the worse it became the harder it was to distract me.
"Will they ever wake up?" I looked up at you with questions perched in my eyes ready to spill out.
"That's not the right question." You said smiling.
I looked down at the ground rubbing my toe in the dirt wondering what the right question might be. "I'm scared." I said under my breath.
You knelt on your knee to be eye level with me and turned my body to face you, "I promise you," you began with a stern face, "I will never let anything happen to you. Ever." You placed your hand on my cheek rubbing back and forth with your thumb. "We have to have each other's back okay?"
I smiled weakly, "Yeah.. Okay.." I scrunched my face trying to not cry and be strong for you.
"If they take me, you have to be the one to kill me okay? You have to promise me that. Can you do it?"
My eyes widened at the thought, "I could never! I would never!" I shook my head back and forth.
"I need you to be strong. I need you to do this for me." You shook me gently so I would look at you.
"Okay..." I whispered.
"Okay." You smiled, "Then we agree."
"But Halcyon?"
"Yes?"
"Please don't get caught. I don't want to ever kill you."
"I know. I'll try my best"
