I felt a sense of calm and peace wash over my body. It was as if I was floating on a cloud, I felt so complete. I had no anxiety or fear. I was afraid to open my eyes in case I was dreaming. I wanted to stay encased in the bliss I felt. The light behind my eye lids encouraged me to open them though and my curiosity got the better of me.
Slowly I opened them to see white. It was just a bright blinding white everywhere. I lifted my hand to my face but couldn't see anything, I touched my cheek and slowly backed away to make sure I had indeed put my hand where I thought I had. Still all I could see was burning white.
I felt alive, as though all my nerves were awake, every electrolyte pulsing. I felt free. It was as though a weight had been released from me. I could breathe but not just breathe, really breathe, clearly and fully.
I concentrated on the light trying to adjust my eyes carefully to it. I felt a sense of belonging and warmth course through my body. I sat up, or at least I think I sat up, carefully standing trying to regain balance. Things became clearer and focused soon.
My feet stood on a white floor. I looked up and saw I was in an all white room. I was wearing a white robe and I felt... Clean. I walked slowly to the edge of the room. There was no door but a hallway. I placed my hand on the wall and let it glide freely feeling the soft smoothness. I followed the hallway all the way down. I felt like I had been walking for hours and not for very long all at the same time. My sense of time had essentially vanished.
I made my way to a large room. I placed my palm on the wall not wanting to leave the only solid foundation I had felt since waking up. Reluctantly I pushed myself away from the wall and walked closer to the center of the room.
In the center of the room sat a single white chair made of wood. It had a white cushion and suddenly I felt the need to sit down. I rested in the room taking in all of my surroundings.
"I've been waiting for you." Boomed a voice. I turned my head around to see a man leaning against the wall. He had long curly black hair and he wore a tailored white suit.
"And you are?" I asked shakily.
"Great Leader's second in command." The man fixed his cuff while talking to me, "We've been watching you. You'd make a great solider."
"What are you talking about?" I looked at him intently.
"There's a war going on."
"I've noticed." I said standing up and crossing my arms.
"I don't really need your sass." He spat looking up at me. I felt a sudden weight on my shoulders and I was pushed back down into the chair hard.
The man in the suit appeared in front of my face smiling. "Shall we try this again?" He asked.
I smiled, "What do you want from me?"
"I don't want anything. I am the Judge. Great Leader does not decide where you go, I decide."
"Where I go?"
"You were honorable sacrificing yourself. It was a noble thing but you still lost the trial."
"I'm sorry, excuse me?" I furrowed my brows clutching the chairs arms in frustration.
"The war is not over yet though. If you go back to fight Sir, if you redo the trial, then maybe I will judge you differently."
"How did I fail?! He was going to kill us both! I took the power away from him! I refused to join him! How dare you!" I screamed.
"Enough! You will learn to watch your tongue!" He banged his fist on the chair close to my head. I tensed up immediately taking large breaths of air trying to calm my racing heart.
"What did I do wrong." I said after a while. "How do I succeed?"
"Death is never the answer." He smiled and then he was gone.
