*BRAYDEN'S POV*
I ran after her. I didn't what I was doing. She probably doesn't even want to see me. But I did it anyways. I couldn't stop myself from going out the front door of the restaurant and I saw here, just outside, leaning on a railing.
I couldn't find any words to say to her, but I wanted to be there for her, even though I thought I couldn't be.
I grabbed her waist and she jumped. She turned around and looked at me.
"Brayden..." she said.
"Cecilia."
"What are you doing?"
"You seemed upset, I wanted to make sure you were okay," I said. I could see the tears pouring out of her eyes, she couldn't speak. It hurt a lot to see her like that.
"Come here," I said holding her. She put her hands on my chest and sobbed into my button up shirt. I stroked her hair, trying to calm her down.
After a while, her sobbing got weaker. She dug her head out of my chest and looked up to me.
"Are you alright?" I asked her.
"No," she said.
"Come on, let's go to my hotel and we can talk."
"But the dinner..."
"We can go back, my hotel is right there," I said pointing across the street.
"Okay," she said quietly.
I held her hand as we crossed the street and got to my hotel room. She had stopped crying, but she looked at the floor the entire time.
"Do you want anything? Water?" I asked.
She shook her head, she was sitting on my bed, staring straight into space.
I sat next to her.
"Do you want to talk?" I asked her.
She scoffed. "There's nothing to talk about," she said.
"How about why you were crying?" I say.
"I don't want to talk about it," she said, still not looking at me.
"Okay, that's fine, we can talk about something else. How've you been?"
"Good."
"Oh really? So those were tears of happiness?" I say.
"Why do you want to talk about it so badly?" she said. I could tell she was annoyed.
"Because I care about you! Why else?" I yelled.
"Really?" she said looking at me.
I looked into her eyes as I said,"Of course I care about you Cecilia."
"Then why did you break my heart?" she asked. The question stung my mind. It hurt to know that I broke her heart three years ago, and neither of us have forgotten it.
"Cecilia, there hasn't been a day when I don't regret what I did in the park. I love you Cecilia. I'll always be here for you," is what I managed to say.
"You think about me everyday?" she asked.
"Of course, don't you?"
"Brayden... It hurt for a while, but I got over it."
"Then why were you crying?"
"When I saw you, it reminded me of all the memories of you."
I smiled, the memories of us. They were probably the reason I couldn't forget about her.
"Then why were you sad?" I asked.
"You don't get it Brayden, all that came back were the sad memories. Your last day in LA, and the park."
Oh, she remembers the shitty stuff.
"What about the happy stuff?" I ask.
"I never really think about the happy times," she said quietly.
"Well, you deserve happiness Cecilia. I'm not going to lie, I was hoping you would take me back tonight, and we can both be happy. But if you only remember the sad part of us, I'd understand if you don't want to be together." I said. I needed an answer, I'd been waiting three years for it.
"Brayden..." she said quietly. I looked up from the floor to her. She was going to cry again. Goddamn it. I've made her cry so much today.
I sat next to her and put my arm around her as she cuddled into my chest.
"I love you," she said quietly.
"And I love you," I said to her.
"But I don't think we can be together," she said as a single tear fell down her cheek.
"Yes, we can."
"Brayden, we tried, it's not going to work."
"It's going to work, you know why?"
She looked at me with a curious face.
"Why?" she asked.
"Because, I'm going to be there for you, in LA, forever," I said. I meant every bit of it. I wanted to be with her, I wanted to wake up next to her, I wanted to be silly with her. I knew I wasn't going to make her come to Canada, so I'll just move in with her.
"You-you can't be serious," she said.
"But I am, my love," I said.
She giggled, and I chuckled.
"You're crazy Brayden," she said to me.
"Crazy for you Cecilia. I'm glad you got what you deserve."
"And what is that?" she asked.
"Someone that'll finally be there for you," I said and she smiled at me. It was that smile. The smile when her face glowed, her eyes were shiny, and her smile lit up the world. I'm glad I got to see it again.
And with that, we walked out of the hotel room, hand in hand, back to the rehearsal dinner.
