2016 - Bucharest, Romania
The morning of disasterBucky woke up early in the mourning. The sounds of birds chipping, the traffic starting for the day and Marcella between his arms.
He didn't mean for it to happen, for him to reach for her in his sleep. Bucky stayed like that for a few seconds, allowing himself to ignore reality. He imagined what life could've been like if he was normal. His heart tugged at the feeling uncomfortably and he slowly lifted his arms away from Sleeping Beauty.
Bucky rolled off of the mattress and stood up. He quickly changed into clothes and freshened up, then he grabbed his keys and left the apartment. He wasn't deserting her, he was grabbing things he'd need for his move. He wasn't going to stay any longer, it wasn't possible. He needed more time to figure out what was going on and why she needed the Command book so badly.
Bucky walked to the market and bought some fresh plums. It was a beautiful morning. He thanked the grocer and walked towards the corner store to grab other things he may need but something stopped him.
In the newspaper stand across the street a man looked at him in a way that was odd. He looked scared. No one ever cared enough to look at Bucky in this busy city so when that man did so, it scared him. Bucky crossed the street and headed towards the man. As soon as he got closer the man took off running away from the stand. Bucky grabbed the closest newspaper and his eyes widened in shock and confusion.
The pounding in Bucky's chest was louder than his thoughts. He was expecting problems but not to this extent, not the entire world against him. His feet took off towards the apartment before his brain did.
Marcella woke up alone, as per usual. She stretched out on the mattress, with a yawn and then rolled onto the floor. She lifted her upper body by her arms and stretched her body like a cobra. Then she pushed back onto her toes to do the yoga pose, 'downward dog.' She sighed in relief, feeling the pull in her calves and back. Her body felt squeezed all night because it was. He must've not realized that his metal arm was cold as a Siberian icicle at night because when he dragged it over her body in his sleep, she gasped and woke herself up. She was about to say something bitchy to him but then she felt his whole chest press against her back, and his face into the back of her neck. It reminded her of the times he'd be sleeping in his cell beside her and his hand would always reach the through the bars. The warmth of his body made her forget she was awake and she fell back asleep.
Marcella lifted onto her arms and using her core strength, she lifted her legs through the space between her arms. Then she lowered to sit on her butt with her feet in front of her. She leaned her body over and grabbed her toes. Her nose was about to touch her knees when she heard a flapping noise.
Her head lifted up and she saw the huge shadow of wings fly past Bucky's newspaper covered windows. Her eyes widened at she launched herself onto her feet faster than you could say, 'Avengers.' The Avengers were here she figured, but why? They didn't know about what was going on. Never did.
