Knock!
Knock!
Knock! The sound of someone knocking on the door woke Marcella up. She looked at the time and realized she slept in, meaning the girls hadn't woken her up.
Quickly, she tried to fix herself up as she heard the voices of her roommates talking to someone. She wondered if it was Sam. Or a police officer asking for her to testify in court due to what happened in Riga yesterday.
She combed through her hair, popped a mint in her mouth, put on a bra then she opened her door and walked into the living room.
"I'm begging. Please, can I see her?"
Oh. Now, that voice wasn't Sam's or a police officers.
The girls looked at her frozen statue of a body and then looked at each other unsure of what to do. "She's... um..."
"She's right there." Bucky grumbled. The fact was that he could smell her perfume a mile away. "Marcella?" He called for her.
Marcella pushed past her friends and they moved way from the door to let her see him. He looked tired. Never mind, he always looked tired. He looked distraught, exhausted, and completely uncomfortable.
"Hi, James." She greeted.
Bucky looked at her with big eyes, and the tightness in his shoulders dissipated a little. He felt the urge to fall into her.
"Can we talk?"
Marcella looked down at her clothes, and then to the girls that were standing right beside her, being all protective and judgmental.
"Yes." She opened the door wider and let Bucky inside their apartment. As soon as he was inside he took off his shoes and placed them neatly on the rug.
"We're going to grab lunch," Zoey decided suddenly but also not so suddenly, with a forced smile on her face.
"It's only 10:30," Simrit whispered to her, thinking only Zoey could hear.
"Brunch, then." Zoey eyed her, remembering who was standing in the living room with them. "Would you like us to grab you anything?" She asked Marcella.
"Um..." Marcella started awkwardly as she pulled two glasses out of a cabinet and placed them on the counter. She watched as Bucky shifted in the room, looking around. He was a little bit too big, towering over them, and their things. Marcella poured them both some water.
Zoey saw her distraction and rolled her eyes, "I'll bring you back a nutella crepe or something. We'll be out for a few hours."
The last part was blunt in the air. Zoey, Simrit, and René left the apartment after giving her a parting look. Compared to the curious and protective looks from Zoey and Simrit, René instead gave her a wink. Like she knew this would happen.
