Chapter 2

"Let us introduce ourselves. I'm Lord Julian Athen, the principal here at Feather Crown."

Wait, I was inside the most prestigious school in The Elf Cities?

"You can call me Lord Julian." He nodded at Diego.

He smiled at me. "I'm Diego Athen, his son."

Lord Julian looked rather sad now. "I heard your family was attacked by The Cloaked. That's why I sent Diego to go try and save you."

I rolled my eyes. "We didn't need saving." I knew it was rude, but I couldn't help it.

Lord Julian chuckled. "Feisty, aren't you?"

"I just don't understand why I'm here when I could be trying to save Daisy!"

Lord Julian looked right into my eyes. "They took your sister?"

I nodded. "They all just vanished. It's my fault, I should have kept her safe."

Diego looked alarmed. Him and his father shared knowing looks.

Finally, Lord Julian spoke up. "If I'm understanding correctly, your sister disappeared in thin air along with the ones who were dressed in black, in cloaks?"

"That's correct," I said firmly.

"Does your sister have any other powers besides pyrokinesis?"

I frowned. "No... but, nobody should, right? We're all only supposed to have one power."

"Clover, we're going to need you to think very hard, okay?" Lord Julian stated. "Try and see if Daisy showed any sort of hint of another ability. Maybe she talked about it or tried to show someone?"

I froze. "Right before she was taken in Toosoll Twins Forest, she told me she could teleport. She's been telling me that forever, though. I never paid attention to her because I always believed you couldn't have more than one power."

Lord Julian sat up straight. I heard Diego shuffling from beside me.

"Clover, only people who can teleport disappear without a trace. Daisy did."

I nodded slowly and then something popped up into my mind. "Wait... I didn't walk or fly here. Diego..." I turned to look at him.

He looked me in the eye and smiled, flashing his sparkly white teeth. "Exactly. Clover, you can teleport, too."

I felt faint. There was no possible way I could teleport and never realized until now. Were all the things I had been taught a lie?

Lord Julian stared at me for a minute, as I processed everything. "If Daisy knew how to teleport, she could be anywhere."

I started to shake. I was so worried about my sister.

"That was a lot to take in, wasn't it? But it doesn't stop there."

"What do you mean, Father?" Diego wanted to know.

Lord Julian sighed. "Some elves were born with multiple abilities or powers. We always have the casual citizen that has two. But, it's been over five decades since we've had an elf that had more than that."

"What are you saying?" I questioned.

"I'm saying... I'm looking at an elf that'll go into the history books. Right in front of me."

I gasped. Was he talking about me? "But... I don't have more than two powers. I just discovered I could teleport, alongside hydrokinesis. What else can I possibly have that I didn't know?"

He grinned. "That, you'll learn here at Feather Crown. Your other two powers require training to achieve. There are those who try for a very long time but can never get them. I believe you aren't one of them, Clover."

"Why didn't my parents know about this?" I cried. I couldn't believe I had been kept in darkness all this time!

"Oh, your parents knew. They were just trying to protect you. That's how I know, you see. I'm friends with your father. But since today, I couldn't get in contact with him. We'll send a search crew to check out your cottage. To see what happened and to look for them. Don't worry," Lord Julian consoled. "Meanwhile, make yourself welcome here."

My eyes started tearing up. I missed my family so much. I hope they were all safe. Before I could worry about them some more, I needed to know one more thing.

"But what are those two other powers?" I inquired.

Lord Julian replied simply. "Invisibility and mind reading. And you will excel in both, Clover Southland."
