I woke up the second I heard that roar. I immediately raised my head to hear where it had come from. My ears pointed to the arena. I had pretty long ears for a dragon. They were deer-like in appearance and had an ability to move in different directions. A bit too goofy and mammalian in my opinion, I'd never liked the look of them. However above the ears, I was gifted with two thin but long horns in a light shade of grey to protect myself with. Because of their light coloration they managed to stand out from my black scales. But what one would notice at first would be my range of blue spots in different shapes, going from my neck to the end of my tail. These were a light shade of blue, while my mane was a deep dark blue. The mane, as the spots, reached from my head to my tail.

My thoughts were interrupted by my gate rolling open. Once again, I didn't see any humans opening it, it appeared to open completely by itself. I assumed that there must be some hidden rope that they were pulling. As the gate opened the orange light from the arena filled my cage, blinding me for the moment. I closed my eyes. The sun was setting. I stood on all four and enjoyed the light, knowing this might be the last time I would witness it. I felt it's warm touch. Soon it would be gone. It had been such a cold night on the stone floor.

When opening my eyes again, my focus went back to the arena. Just one step and I'd be out there. But like an invisible fence, something kept me from taking that step. I didn't want to. I really didn't want to. But it wasn't like I had a choice, and I didn't want to know what would happen if I refused to leave my room either. I had been whipped and abstained from food for showing mercy to my opponents last time. They had not been pleased with my actions. Please no hyenas this time. I finally entered the arena. The gate behind me closed. At least the sand felt warm and softer than the stone and hay combo I'd slept on.

This time the arena's seats were already filled, and the crowd grew louder with my appearance. My opponent stood waiting for me at the other side. I froze when I saw it.

My opponent was no hyena nor a dragon. He was a big, robust animal. I felt a warning go off inside of me, my whole body telling me to flee. He was covered in a thick layer of white fur, and when standing on his hind legs he truly looked intimidating. This mammal I was facing was a polar bear.

Two thick chains laid wrapped around his arms, locked to the arena's stone walls. It kept him at a distance. But still, I stood face to face with a polar bear; I was speechless. I knew that one bite from that jaw would crush my bones into pieces. I looked up through the chain-roof, at the night sky, at the stars. I knew I wouldn't survive this. This was a very unfair matchup, as I had yet not learned how to breathe fire. Without this ability, I would be overpowered by his raw strength. I thanked the stars for my life and everything else, and as my eyes shifted from the stars to the polar bear, the chains were unlocked.

The white bear sprinted towards me, the sound of each footstep echoing through my ears. Without hesitation - he would kill me.

I panicked and took to the roof again, clinging to its chains. I was so frightened that I held on with every part of my body. Both wings and tail held a strong grip around the chains. I wasn't completely sure if the snowbear could reach me or not, but I begged that it couldn't. I hoped. I prayed. The mighty bear rose onto its hind legs in an attempt to reach me with it's mouth. The distance between us was too far, and I exhaled in relief.

But the bear wasn't finished yet. He tried again, this time using his arms too. "No!" I screamed out between clenched teeth, I knew he could do it now. I knew he would reach me - and I...

I was doomed.
