There I was, in the middle of a fight, deep in my thoughts where nothing existed apart from my own world. I had fainted, or I was dying. Which one it was I couldn't tell, I just needed to wake up. All that made sense to me was to bring my friends into safety. But it was all so difficult. My head was pulsating, and I faded in and out of consciousness. I made one last attempt to open my heavy eyes, and caught a glimpse of red spots and dark scales in front of me.
At first I was unsure if I had woken up, hesitant if what had manifested in front of me was my own reflection or not. But as I regained consciousness, it became evident that who stood before me was the third dragon. My eerie duplicate. His eyes were set on me, fiery eyes which I could not read. They looked down on me as I laid defeated. I was too stunned to react, and in a split second I thought I would die. My eyes searched desperately for William, but found nothing. The black dragon blocked my view, shifting my attention to him. He opened his mouth to say something, but a twisted, painful scream tore through the moment. I didn't doubt it. It was Skyfall.
I could feel my legs come back to life, lifting my body in one swift move. Somehow, without my knowing, my body had saved some energy. I couldn't find William anywhere I looked, and I was beginning to fear he might already be gone. Accepting this, my objective changed, and I was now going to use every last drop of energy to save Skyfall. I gave up manual control over my body and, instead, I let my instincts guide me. I flew up into the air, fast as the wind. In my adrenaline fueled flight, I searched deep into my chest and released the mightiest roar of my lifetime. I could barely believe it came from me.
I noted my enemies to be stunned, especially the silver dragon, who stood frozen on the ground with an alarmed gaze set on me. As I flew across the arena, I could feel a certain kind of energy, an energy I'd never felt before. I let it flow through my body, spreading from my chest to my throat, fingertips and tail. In a second, I realized what it was.
Faster. I began picking up more speed, staying close to the walls of the arena to make use of its space. The arena wasn't made for flights like these, and I needed to maneuver with haste to keep off the fence and wall. From my bird's point of view, I spotted William hiding alongside the wall, and with a quick, gentle scoop, I brought him into my palm and placed him between my horns. My fearless friend was alive. I proceeded to pick up more speed, and I could feel him tense up, gripping the strands of my hair tighter. "Are you okay?" I asked, and then immediately added; "Are you wounded?" He replied; "No, I'm alright!" And this was all I needed to know, because now my speed was reaching its limit, and I took aim on the silver dragon.
I didn't hesitate, I didn't even think. All my motions were based on instinct and nothing more. Suddenly my whole body lit up in a spectacle that drew everyone's attention. Every blue spot of mine emitted a striking blue light, and made stark contrasts against the dark sky. I could feel the newfound energy build up and focus on the inside of my throat, and before I knew it, I had released it into the air, against the silver dragon. Its form had shifted from just being energy, into a cluster of deep, blue, deadly flames. It hit with such incredible force and power that I found it difficult to control. The silver dragon was struck down, and amidst the bursting sound of flames I could hear the chaos unfold below me, screams of terror in smoldering heat. I shifted my beam to the black dragon, but to move it was straining, and he evaded my attempts. Caught in the fire was however, the electric dragon.
At the base of my flames I could at first see sparks of small lightning emerge as the electric dragon made resistance, but they quickly evaporated as my fire overpowered her. It seemed like the fire didn't just burn, there was something more to it. The flames certainly did not burn like regular flames, but twisted in a wild matter, and an acidic smell hailed from them. They were a showcase of many blue shades, an impressive sight to behold. After a while I had emptied all my energy, and the flames began to dissolve into the air. At the end they turned into shreds of dust, leaving the two dragons on the sand, unmoving. Even the black dragon, who had evaded most of the flames, had been subdued and laid silently among his comrades. The acidic stench reeked of toxicity, and I noticed some had begun to cough, both among the audience and in the arena. But the fumes didn't linger for long, and in a moment they were gone.
I immediately ran to Skyfall, who laid on the ground. As I came closer to her, I began to slow down, and let William down on the sand. He approached her and sat down beside her, placing his paw on her neck. His head was hanging down- a bitter sign. The sight gave me shivers, and a dreadful feeling formed in my gut. I slowly stepped towards them, dragging my tail and paws in the sand.
This can't be happening. By the stars, don't let it end like this.
I sat down beside William. We didn't look at each other, I didn't have the courage to. We just stared at our lifeless friend, who could have been our only way back to freedom.
