"So you have an idea William?""Yes, but it's not going to be easy!"
"Looks like we have no choice." I said. "You must get her to fall down or something, so she won't be able to move." William explained. "You mean like, breaking her leg?" I suggested, so it would at least seem as I understood his plan. "Yes exactly, and then we'll use her own fire against her!"
Using a dragon's own fire against them? Don't be silly. "William, are you sure about this, I don't think it will work. I mean why doesn't her fire burn her right now?"
"From what I've seen, a dragon's fire won't burn itself, or at least not immediately. You guys are quite fireproof. But I believe that if you wait and give it time, it will burn through. Now get that leg!" He commanded as I flew straight down and dug my claws into her leg.
I unleashed several violent slashes to it, and she roared in pain. Before she could turn her head at me, I had already torn several pieces of flesh off of her leg with my fangs and claws. It had resulted in a gory mess, and I had become stained with blood. As I flew away, it felt as if my ears imploded from the painful scream she let out. Half of her leg laid cut off on the arena's sand, drenched in a deep red pool of blood. I gulped as chills spread through my body, all the way from the tip of my nose to the end of my tail.
It is either her, or me and William. I repeated inside my head. She roared once more before falling to the ground. As planned she was unable to rise up again. Her leg had been mutilated so badly that she would never be able to use it again. From its core, both bones, muscles and blood were in places they shouldn't be. I felt ashamed, disgusted and nauseous. For a second I thought I might vomit.
It is either her, or me and William.
It is either her, or me and William.
It is either her, or me and William. With a shaky voice I asked the only one there was to speak to; "What now, William? What should I do?" He was silent, maybe stunned from the sight below us. I flew higher up.
"...If you could just come a little closer to her... maybe your wings would push the flames towards her." He sounded just as insecure as I felt. "Okay." I flew down, closer to the flames and the green dragon. When looking around, I noticed how the fire had spread more than anticipated. How this had happened on sand, I did not know. Even the humans had stepped back because of the heat. I reluctantly tried to move the flames with the wind of my wings. Long, deep, heavy flaps created waves that slowly set the flames in motion. Slowly, they crept up on her. And slowly, she began to feel their heat.
She must have felt an unimaginable amount of pain. She crawled, twisted her body and screamed in an unnatural high pitched tone. I felt guilty again, I knew that sound would stay with me forever. And the show just didn't end. Moments felt like an eternity. William didn't seem to celebrate either, he was completely silent as he sat on my head. "Oh...my..." I heard his regretful voice utter beneath the screams. We both just stared at the burned, now black dragon as parts of her body almost disappeared into the flames. Suddenly the screaming stopped, and was replaced by a numb, empty silence. After some time the fire disappeared as well, leaving behind a burnt trail of a corpse which moments ago had been a fully functioning person.
I landed on the sand. We stared at what was left of the female dragon in terror. Neither me or William had known what a dragon's fire truly could do.
Now we knew.
