Thoughts of the party fled everyone's mind as they pushed towards the railing to get a view of what was happening in the waters below. Erin and Jay clutched onto each other, watching nervously as the water churned and swirled. It rose like an inverted whirlpool, the glow from Uma's necklace powering it. The whirlpool grew and expanded until it was towering over the ship and all its inhabitants. Then it burst, drenching everyone in chilled saltwater.
Jay covered Erin as best as he could as they both lost their balance from the brute force of the waves against the ship. As maniacal laughter filled the night air, Jay helped Erin to her feet before doing the same for Melody and Taylor. Collectively, the soaked crowd charged the railing to see what had emerged from the water.
Uma, whose lower half was that of a giant octopus, gasped as she landed back in the water. Her teal tentacles snaked in and out of the water, moving with the currents to keep Uma afloat. "True love's kiss won't defeat this," she snarled.
The crowd gaped at her, in awe of her transformation. "The world will know my name!"
Uma reeled back, building energy for a strike. Then she yelled and lashed a tentacle out, and it whipped over their heads. Jay pulled Erin down, protecting her. As soon as the crowd recovered, another tentacle whipped over their heads, sending them backward. As they recovered, Erin and Jay checked each other over for injuries, which they were relieved to learn that they were unscathed. Then they checked in with the rest of their friends, glad they all seemed okay.
But Mal was a different story.
She was huffing, getting angry that Uma was threatening all her friends' lives, threatening Auradon. Erin clutched Jay's arm when she saw Mal's eyes illuminated with a bright green glow, just like her mural.
Uma mocked Mal's anger before letting out a laugh and sending Mal a challenging gesture. Uma was convinced she was better than Mal in every way, stronger. Mal's face scrunched into a snarl as her breathing continued to increase, her eyes glowing that much brighter.
"Mal?" Ben asked.
Her glowing eyes met Ben's worried ones, and her breath hitched. Then lavender smoke swirled around Mal. The crowd watched on in confusion and awe as Mal finally gave in to herself after months of holding back.
The smoke thickened, rising into the air. When it dissipated, a purple dragon appeared, letting out a mighty roar before launching into the sky. Uma laughed, ready for a fight.
Mal screeched and let out a blazing stream of fire, which Uma managed to escape by centimeters. The plume hit the water and sizzled out.
Then Uma launched a counter-attack, yelling as she threw a tentacle. Mal missed the whip, and Uma shouted, "Come on, Mal! Let's finish this once and for all."
Mal growled and flew towards Uma, sending down another stream of fire, which Uma leaned back into the water to avoid. She turned as Mal circled around for another strike. Before she could, Uma sent another tentacle at her, and Mal screeched in pain. Uma's tentacle whip hit its target.
"Oh no," Erin whispered. While Jay was holding her close for protection, Taylor was clutching her arm and Mel her hand. All their eyes were worriedly glued to Mal.
They ducked as Mal swooped close to them, recovering from the hit before soaring higher and facing Uma. With a fierce screech, Mal sent a ball of fire at Uma. This time, Uma had to take cover under the surface.
When she came back up, more waves were sent into the ship and more water poured down on the passengers. "Watch out!" Ben shouted.
Everyone grasped onto one another for balance as the ship swayed violently on the ocean. However, between her heels, her dress, the water, and the added weight of the people around her, Erin went down, causing a bit of a domino effect for her friends. Jay held her securely as they slid across the deck on the world's worst slip and slide. As the ship tipped to the right, they slid with it, and as it corrected itself they slid to the left. They crashed into the stairs, Jay using his own body to shield Erin from the brute impact.
