Six months. It had been six months since the Coronation. Six months of Ben's reign. Six months since Mal, Jay, Evie, and Carlos chose to be good. In that time, Erin grew closer to the VKs and was proud to call them her friends, with the exception of Jay. She was even prouder to call him her boyfriend. Erin taught them all sign language, which they used often for private discussions as well as practice. It was always fun, and it was great to see them all getting along so well in Auradon.
Erin never took off the ring Jay had given her as a symbol of their strong love for one another. They were closer than ever. And her family loved Jay almost as much as she did. He would join the family at the beach or even in the water. Turns out the tail King Triton conjured for him was dark red like most of his leather jackets. Erin found that it suited him well. But the best times were when they were alone to walk along the shore hand-in-hand as the sunset under the horizon. Neither of them had ever felt happier than when they were together.
Like Erin, Taylor was getting along with the VKs just as well. She and Evie worked together to make designer, one-of-a-kind gowns for all the young women at the school. They both had an eye for fashion, were talented seamstresses, and Taylor often tinkered with Evie's sewing machine whenever it decided to glitch. With Cotillion coming up, they were busier than ever fulfilling orders.
Erin was pretty busy herself in that regard. She had elicited Jane's help as well as the decorating committee to organize everything for Cotillion. Together, they were getting a lot done, and it wasn't as stressful as Erin thought it would be. Cotillion was only a few days away, so now they were just finalizing a few last-minute details, which mainly included getting Ben or Mal's opinions on things. It was sort of their day, after all.
Speaking of which, Erin and Taylor were actually looking for Mal. Taylor was tasked by Evie to fetch her for her dress-fitting, and Erin needed her decisions on party-favors and such. The redhead was staring down at her tablet, tapping through different screens while the energetic fairy skipped next to her.
"I can't wait for you to see your dress! You're gonna be so surprised!"
"If you can't wait, then just show me," Erin muttered distractedly.
Taylor scoffed. "No way! I want this to be special. Plus, I'm trying to prove to Evie that I can keep a secret."
"You can't," Erin deadpanned.
"I can keep a secret. Sometimes it's just more fun not to."
Erin rolled her eyes towards her mischievous friend and was about to retort when they heard multiple voices speaking over each other. Looking towards the noise, they saw a large group of reporters swarming Adam's morphing statue.
Sharing a wide-eyed glance, the girls said in unison, "Mal."
Taylor grabbed Erin's wrist to keep her clumsy friend up-right and together they jogged towards the swarm, quickly pushing their way to the front. They blocked Mal from the scavengers with wide friendly smiles on their faces.
"Princess Erin! Princess Erin! How are you and Jay? Is he adjusting to royalty?"
Erin's smile was becoming strained. "Jay and I are doing very well. And he and my family get along great."
"Mal, is your mother still a lizard?" A reporter shouted, shoving a microphone towards the girls. Mal's head whipped towards the reporter with wide eyes, clutching Erin's bicep. They needed to get out of this.
"Okay, alright, excuse me," Ben chimed as he weaved his way through the sea of reporters. "Uh, we will let you know if and when that particular situation changes."
But they weren't getting the message. "Did you ever think you'd be with a villain kid?"
"We're done here," Ben said into the mic before wrapping a comforting arm around Mal's shoulders.
