"Who was that?" Erin quietly asked as the group walked towards their destination.
"Gil, the youngest of Gaston's sons," Carlos answered.
Jay sighed and gently rested his hand on the small of Erin's back. "Let's just hope he's the worst person we run into."
"Not likely," Evie said. "Stay sharp. Where there's Gil, Uma or Harry usually aren't far behind."
Soon enough, the group arrived at an abandoned building with metal, caged-in stairs that led all the way to the top. Evie picked up a rock and threw it at a sign and the cage door opened. "Come on," she said, gesturing to Ben.
"Wish me luck," he requested.
"All the way up," Carlos added.
As Ben started up the stairs, Evie called, "Good luck."
There was nothing left to do but wait. Evie and Carlos leaned on either side of the exposed grating while Jay leaned against the wall with Erin nestled into his side. His arm subtly rested around her waist and he rubbed soothing circles into the small of her back. They all had solemn, worried expressions.
"Do you think she'll come?" Evie asked.
"I hope so," Carlos replied.
"Who are Harry and Uma?" Erin asked. "Should we be worried?"
Jay sighed and pulled Erin closer to him. "Harry Hook, Captain Hook's son. He's another one of Uma's lackeys."
"Not to mention, he's always had it out for Jay," Carlos added.
Erin's eyes widened. "What?"
"Isle rivalry. It's normal around here," Jay reassured. "We would always try to outdo each other growing up."
Carlos nodded with a small smirk on his face. "Jay usually won, and Harry never took well to coming in second."
"Oh, I have a bad feeling," Erin commented worriedly. "Do I want to know who Uma is?"
"Probably not," Evie answered, "But you might as well."
"Uma is Ursula's daughter," Jay admitted.
A queasy feeling washed over Erin as her anxiety settled in her stomach, and she felt like she was going to be sick. "Oh, my God," she whispered. Her eyes were wide with fright as they flickered between her friends. Then she caught Jay's concerned gaze, and he rested his hands on her shoulders, gently forcing her to look at him.
"Hey, it's okay. We're gonna get Mal, and we're gonna get out of here. Deep breaths."
Despite Jay's attempts, Erin was still a bundle of nerves. "Jay, she's the daughter of my parents' sworn enemy. She probably hates me, maybe even wants revenge. What if-"
"Hey, no, don't do that to yourself," Jay interrupted. Erin's crystal blue eyes shifted away from Jay, and her mouth opened to form another argument. Seeing this, Jay moved his hands from her shoulders to either side of her face, and Erin's eyes met his chocolate brown ones.
"I'm not gonna let anything happen to you," Jay assured. "Okay?"
Erin nodded against Jay's hands. "Okay."
Throwing caution to the wind, Jay placed a tender kiss on Erin's forehead before pulling her flush against his body. Erin released a deep breath through her nose and nuzzled her cheek into Jay's chest. Silence hung in the air as they continued to wait for Ben and Mal. A clank sounded on the metal stairs above them, causing everyone to look up expectantly. When Erin only heard one pair of footsteps, her brows furrowed with worry and confusion.
