Chapter Six:
"Awe, he kissed you. Wait, that means he lost the bet," Beca squealed.
"Yeah, I get to gloat now," I snickered.
"Alison, Rebeca, this is the second time. One more time, and you will leave." Mr. Winston had been giving us looks all morning.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes, sir." Beca erupted into giggles.
He went back to teaching, and Beca struggled to breathe. I doodled on the space that was left of my notebook. I made spirals everywhere. The time flew by, and before I knew it, Derek was tapping on my notebook. "I'm coming over."
"Oh, you are, are you? What for?"
"Yep, and to get to know you better." Derek helped me up.
I grabbed my things and started walking. I left my car at home because walking clears my head. Derek walked next to me.
"So, I heard you and Tyler made a bet, and he lost. I just don't know what the bet was." Derek shrugged. "Beca told me. What was it about?"
I ignored his question and texted Beca.
Damn, do you tell everyone what I tell you?
We entered my apartment building and climbed the stairs. "Oh, you wanted to know what it was about? It was whoever begged the other to kiss them first, lost." I opened my door and walked into what felt like a brick wall. I stumbled and Tyler caught me.
"Well, hello there, sweetheart."
"Hey," I backed up a little.
"I thought you two finished the dress?" Tyler questioned.
"We did. He just wanted to get to know me better, in case we have more projects." Now that I think about it, this could be bad.
"Why does he need to get to know you better? You two are just friends. I'm your boyfriend."
Shit, he just made it official, I didn't realize that we were together. "Oh, so we're together now?"
"Yeah, that's why I kissed you last night. Or did that slip your mind?"
"Excuse me? Just because you kissed me, doesn't mean that we are together. Its just as much your fault as it is mine. Don't you dare blame me. And yes, we are just friends, but in order to be friends, people need to know some things about each other." I noticed that Derek left, probably for the best. "I can't believe you." I walked into the kitchen.
Tyler followed me. "You can't believe me? Oh, my god. When a guy kisses you, it's his way of making it official." He threw his hands into the air.
"Well you could've made that more clear. And I'm sorry that you're jealous, but you don't have to take it out on me!" I slammed my bedroom door in his face.
*****
"Sweetheart, I'm sorry. Please let me in." Tyler stood at my door, apologizing.
I opened the door and he smiled at me. "I'm sorry, too. I should've asked you. And I shouldn't have brought Derek here."
He wrapped me in his arms. I smelled his scent of wood and pine. "Just so you know for sure, we're official." He kissed me, sweetly at first, and then more hungrily. His kisses trailed down my neck. I groaned and pushed him away.
"No, no, no, not yet." I shook my finger at him and he sighed.
"Your brothers just reminded me why we never hung out with the both of them, at the same time." Beca told me, still coming through the door.
"What did they do this time?" I asked.
"All they did was play video games, and make me cater to them," Beca groaned.
I struggled not to laugh and playfully punched my brothers on their shoulders.
"What did I do?" Hunter rubbed his shoulder.
"You made your girlfriend cater to you."
"I'm sorry." Hunter told Beca, but she just rolled her eyes. Hunter kissed Beca and I gagged. "No PDA in my home."
"Sorry," Beca said sheepishly.
"Where's your new boyfriend? We wanna talk to him." Zach asked me.
"Right behind you, smartass." I pointed over his head.
"Alright, little buddy, let's talk." Hunter clasped his arm onto Tyler's shoulder.
I kissed Tyler and whispered in his ear. "Good luck."
Hunter and Zach took Tyler to sit on the couch, and Beca dragged me out the door.
"Where are we going?" I asked once we got into her car.
"My house," she said blankly. She put the car into drive.
I listened to the radio and hummed along. It took about ten minutes to get to her house, but when I walked through the door I almost turned right back around.
"Mom?" I questioned, and her piercing gaze flew to me.
"Alison," her voice was as cold as her eyes.
"Um, I'll be right back." I dragged Beca outside. "What the hell, Rebeca? Why is she here? Why didn't you tell me?"
"OK, slow down with the questions. She wanted to talk to you. And I knew that if I told you she was here, you wouldn't have come willingly. I'm sorry," Beca answered all of my questions. "Now go back in there and listen to what she has to say."
"I'm gonna get you back for this." I muttered and went back inside. "What do you want, mother?"
"Show a little respect. I did give birth to you," she snapped.
"Yeah, but that's it. What do you want?" I sighed.
"You, young lady, need manners."
"If only my mother would have taught me to use them towards her."
She took a deep breath and her voice cracked. "Your father's dead."
