Chapter Twenty Two:
"Babe, I wanna meet your parents." I leaned over the chair and wrapped my arms around Tyler's shoulders.
"Well, I'm glad you said so because they want to meet you too." He pulled my hand from his chest and kissed my palm.
"I know, so I made plans to go dancing tonight." He looked up at me with a smile on his face.
"What if I can't make it tonight?"
"You can. I called in for you at work." I kissed his cheek and pulled back.
"You want to go dancing? With my parents? Do you know who they are?"
"The founders of a small dance company. They can dance. And I know you can dance."
"But my parents always turn small things into competitions."
"Don't worry. I can dance. And I can handle your parents. Your mom already likes me." I picked up my plate and took it to the sink.
"How do you know my mom likes you?" Tyler's voice drifted into the kitchen.
"How do you think I made plans with them? I got your mom's number, and I called her. We talked on the phone."
"Well, aren't you sneaky?"
"Not really. You just didn't know." I shot him a smile. "Be ready by eught o'clock."
I walked to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. Then I walked to my room and changed from my pajama shorts to a pair of sweats and a T-shirt. Tyler came in behind me, just as I was throwing my hair up.
"Where are you going?"
"I have class, and then I'm gonna buy groceries. I'll be home a few hours before we have to leave, though." I grabbed my purse and phone. I pecked Tyler's lips as I passed him.
"Okay, love you!" He called after me.
"Love you too!" I shut the door and hurried to my truck. I had less than ten minutes to get to class.
I, technically, didn't break any rules because I sped through the lights before they turned red. I made it to class just before the professor shut the door. I had to sit through an insufferable hour of Calculus today.
With no Beca.
This was not going to be fun.

"You wanna go to the store with me?" I spoke into my phone, while I drove to Beca's house.
"Not really. But I'm guessing you're already on your way, and I have maybe five minutes to be ready." I heard ruffling and assumed Beca was getting off the couch.
"The first part you guessed right, but I'm pulling in right now. So you have maybe two minutes before I'm at the door." I hopped out of my truck and walked up to the door. "Make that two seconds."
The door swung open before I could touch the handle. I hung up the phone. Beca was rushing to the bathroom, so I shut the door behind me.
"Why do you always have to spring these things on me at the last minute?" Beca called.
I heard water running and followed her. She was bent over the sink with her toothbrush in her mouth. "Because." I shrugged my shoulders.
She spit the toothpaste out and rinsed her mouth before replying. "That's not an answer."
"I don't know, but you love me, so it's okay."
"Ugh." She groaned as she pulled her shoes on. "I look like crap, and you want me to go out in public."
