Betty got to Veronica's just in time. Food was already at the table and they started from the food. Betty heard how the last night went, they talked about Veronica's and Cheryl's work stuff, Betty told something too.
"So how long we are gonna do this? Betty dear. I'm sorry, but we are not interested about your work. Can you just tell us what the hell has happened for last few weeks?" Cheryl snapped but her kindly way. Veronica bursted into laugh and coughed out to the table few crumbs of bread she was just chewing which made Betty and Cheryl laugh.
But Betty started the story, of course. It was her girls. Betty told first how it all went down after the discussion about his family. After that it was awkward and weird again and nothing besides work was mentioned in their conversations. Then Betty told about the lunch break on the other day, when he snapped again after Carla asked if he was going to be with friends or family on Thanksgiving.
"So basically he accused me of bringing it all up again, and of course it was little hard for the other reasons too, which Carla and Joel didn't know obviously. The voicemail may have ruined many Thanksgiving after its first appearance," Betty huffed and felt the ache still in her chest. That voicmail held so much inside in it.
"Well he was the one who ruined your Thanksgivings. Maybe he was pissed for himself. But go on, I know there is more," Cheryl thought out loud and rested her head on her hands, elbows pressing the table.
"Well. After he was picking me apart, he rushed to the office and we were hiding the rest of the day. But somehow I got over my anger towards his voicemail and that behavior, and I decided he was needing a friend and I was going to be that even I'd had to make him take my help," Betty grinned after her last sentence. Girls laughed a bit to Betty's determination.
"Where the hell you got the balls to do that decision? You are finally sounding a person whom I've been trying to raise you!" Veronica said proud of herself. And of Betty, who laughed to that as she kept shaking her head to her ridiculous friend.
"So after he left, I ran after him, he went accidentally to the basement where he lost it, again. I forcely took him in my tight grib and he calmed down. He then promised to tell me something if I could go to his place. And there I went. And now were are friends. End of story?" Betty asked hoping it was enough. But like she already knew, it wasn't and girls wanted more.
"No, no, no, no, no. What happened yesterday?"
Betty sighed with a smile. She told how she got there with the wines, how she told about her family and studies and how they decided, that this all between them could be just easy and they weren't going to let it be weird.
"He told the story about Jb and Fp. And we agreed that we are going to find her. We texted her and this morning for the first time ever, she answered. You should have seen his face!" and Betty thought she ended the story finally and her smile was so big for thinking of his happy face this morning.
"Hold on girl! Morning? Where were you sleeping, oh my god, did you already slept together?" Veronica was onto something as if and she was thrilled. But was it really this easy?
"Shit. No. Of course not. We are not gonna do that. His ex came by at nine, my brilliant tipsy idea was to act like we were back together again and we left out, took a taxi to my place and he slept on my couch. Calm down you two, really. We are trying to be friends. We haven't talk about anything what went down with us. So it's fragile. And we are not talking about those things. It will ruin everything and our main focus is on Jb. Now it's the end of this story," Betty huffed and looked at her girls. They were little more okay now, but still not as happy as she hoped.
So of course there were many many many questions how the act went, what they ate, how much they drank, where did he sat, how they went to bed, you name it. Betty didn't want to tell them too much, no exact details, so she kept it simple, even thought the questions kept coming for quite nice time.
