SONG: You've Got A Friend by Carole King

_____

He looks really nice in that shirt. Man, how come I never before noticed how cool he looks!? And he has really nice hands. I love when a guy has nice hands. It would be really nice to be touched with tho-

'What are you daydreaming about?'

Ida's thoughts were interrupted by Jeremy who brought out a big pack of guitar picks that Earl wanted sorted by color and then placed into separate containers. He was very grumpy this morning because his wife's parents were coming to town and they didn't like him very much. The feeling seemed to have been mutual.

'Oh, nothing,' Ida replied, turning her head with great difficultly towards Jeremy. 'Just... hippie stuff- Is that more guitar picks?'

Jeremy nodded. 'Yes, but these are pastel ones,' he answered. 'I don't even know why we need this many picks. We have enough to supply entire Point Place for ten years if everyone played a guitar.'

Ida sighed, starting to sort out the new batch. 'Well, luckily, our shift ends soon and the rest of this crap will be Jenny's and Johnny's problem.' With a smile, Jeremy leaned down and kissed her cheek. Then confused, he took a step back and looked at her. 'What?' she asked.

He shook his head. 'Nothing. Just that this is the first time you didn't blush and did that little laugh when I kissed you on the cheek.'

Realizing that was true, she said, 'Oh. I must've gotten used to it.' She grinned. 'It was a very sweet kiss though.'

'We still on for tonight?' Jeremy asked, spilling a small container of guitar picks onto the table and starting to sort them into piles that Ida already made: yellow, blue, green and pink. Who even used pink guitar picks?

Ida nodded. 'Yep. Chevy is ready for her first ride. Well, second technically because I went for a test ride with my dad last night.'

'I can't believe I mean that little to you that you offer me a second ride in your new car,' Jeremy replied, acting as though he was offended. 'I though we were more than that.'

She playfully nudged him in the ribs before looking back towards Hyde and Donna who were still looking through the new records the store got yesterday. Donna picked out one, they exchanged a couple of words and then headed towards the counter.

'You finally picked out something?' Ida asked, looking as Donna handed the record to Jeremy to check out.

'The Kinks? Good choice,' Jeremy said.

'It wanted to get something new,' Donna told them. 'I've been listening the same old records all the time and it's getting annoying. The bird on the tree in front of my house has even memorized most of the Zeppelin songs.'

Hyde was picking through the guitar picks. 'What's with all this?'

'Earl and parents-in-law problems,' Ida said. 'We have to sort them by color. But I'm not complaining because last time he was having some problems, he made us re-organize all the records by year of publication instead of alphabetically. And then he didn't like it, so we had to put it all back. Do you guys know how annoying it is when you have to sing the alphabet song a million times to figure out what letter comes after another?'

'You mind if I take one?' Hyde asked Ida and Jeremy.

Ida shook her head. 'Help yourself. There's more than enough.'

'You play something?' Jeremy said, looking over at Hyde while putting Donna's record into a bag.

'A bit of guitar.'
