I woke up, made myself some hot coffie and set up my chess board for some new defense tactics. I had to make sure I was fully prept for my new tournament, and the only way was to practise.

Y/n wandered into the kitchen a little while after, making her own cup of coffie and sitting opposite me, reading  her magazine. I tried to stay focused on my game but I couldn't stop thinking about what Beth said. See if she will come to you about it.

I wasn't sure if I could wait that long. Y/n was always the type of person to wait for someone else to do it first. What if she never talks to me about it and we live out the rest of our lives like this? Just the thought of it makes me feel sick.

I saw her take glances towards the chess board every so often before returning her attention to her magazine. Then a though crossed my mind.

"Y/n, remember when you asked me to teach you how to play chess? And I promised I would teach you how?"

She took another sip of her drink before placing her magazine down on the table. Holding her head In her hands, looking at the board and avoiding the contact with me.

"You never taught me how to play" She said sadly.

"I could teach you now, if you wanted?"

She put her index finger on the top of the queen, moving it around a little before toppling it over.

"It's too late now"

She got up from her chair and went over to the sink to start washing the dishes. This wasn't going to work. How am I supposed to help build our relationship back up again if she won't even try?

Then I remembered about the phone number Beth gave me. I got it out from my coat pocket, sitting by the phone and dialing the number in, waiting as it rang.

"Hello?" Beth asked.

"It's me, I uh was wondering if maybe we could meet up again and talk?"

"Oh I see" She laughed " So I'm your little therapist now?"

"No, I just-"

"Benny it's fine, I get it. When someone comes into your life who finally listens to your problems and helps you with them, it's normal to want to see them again. Yes, I'll meet you in the bar"

"Thank you"

I put the phone back and grabbed my hat and coat, putting them on.

"I'm just going out, I won't be long" I told Y/n.

I left the apartment and headed over to the bar. When I entered, Beth was sitting there waiting, in the same place as we met last time. Two bottles of beer sitting on the wood again.

I went over and sat down next to her.

"Thanks for coming"

"Your welcome" She smiled " What do you want to talk about?"

"So, the thing you said about letting her come to me. It won't work, Y/n never does that, she never has, she always waits for someone to come to her"

"Ok, so talk to her"

"I've tried, she just doesn't want to listen"

"Then make her listen"

" How do I-"

"I'm sorry Benny" She interrupted " I have somewhere to be, good luck though, we'll talk later"

She took off, and I let her go knowing she needed to be somewhere. I headed back home, having nothing better to do.
