- JJ spit of the moldy bread we told him not to eat as John B opened the package. John B opened a paper which had a map on it. "X marks the spot" He said pointing at the X marked in the ocean "wait there's something else" I said pulling out a tape recorder? "what's that" JJ asked I looked at him with a are you serious look as Kie answered his question "Its a tape recorder.. dumbass" "Oh fuck no. This is a lot for one night" I said

"Dear Layla and John,

- I hate to say I told you guys so, but I told you guys so, and you doubted you old man. I suspect Layla you are filled with guilt, self loathing over our last fight"  My dad said through the recorder.  I bounced my knee faster as the tears couldn't hold back any longer. "But, don't kill yourself yet kid, I love you and I know you love me Layla, I didnt expect to find the merchant either. You were probably right to call me out, wasn't exactly father of the decade. What could I say kiddos, I could smell the barn. Hopefully we are listening to this in our brand new sugar-shack down in Costa-Rica, Livin' off passive investments, and Pullin' on permits. If not and you find this for less then optimal reasons. Well, that's what the map is for. There she is the wreck of the merchant. If something happens to me, finish what I started. Go for the gold Kids. I love you L and J, even if I didnt always act like it. Layla stop holding yourself accountable. I know you are you have always been like that. Pinning everything on yourself. Take it easy. Ill see you on the other side kids I love you."  The recorder clicked off and John b threw it on the table as he got up sobbing. I went up to him and he fell into me wrapping his arms around my body. Jj was excited about finding the merchant. Kie quickly shut him down as the gold wasn't the most important thing right now. I calmed myself so I can try and calm down john B because both of us crying was not going to help. I wiped his tears "John Its okay." I said as he started to calm down "He is still out there. Okay?" I said

- We sat on the dock in silence while Kie played her  ukulele. JJ was sitting on the railing as I stood in front of hum laying against his chest.  "How much was it again" he said.  I sighed "400 mill" I answered. " okay lets talk split. And before you say evenly may I remind you I am the only one that can properly defend us from those groupers that were after us. Protection? Not cheap okay. " JJ said "you aren't even trained" Pope said as JJ started to wave the gun around and it stopped at me "okay don't point that at me" I said to JJ as he set the un down "YouTube bro" JJ said as he started to play with my hair. "that's at least a five percent bump right there" jj said "I don't now man" Pope said. "what are you going to do with a 50 mill pope" Kie asked "pay for collage in advance and also textbooks those are expensive. What about you Kie what does a socialist do when she is rich" she let out a breathy laugh " I wanna make a double album, about OBX, the Pogues, you know they way, Catch a fire is about Kingston. Record at Marley Studios, Peter Tosh producing" i laughed "peter tosh is dead" I said "peter tosh is dead I know . Spirit of peter tosh will never die" she said raising her drink "actually I know what I will do I'm going to get a big ass house on figure 8 and go full kook" I lifted my head from his body with a weird expression "JJ Maybank? full kook?" I said "yeah gonna get a marble statue of myself, then im going to get a koi pond. and put a bunch of those fish" he let out a small laugh "I'm never visiting" Kie said "what are you going to do JB" Pope asked he took a second to answer "to going full kook" He raised his can and we all did the same. After a little we all went our separate ways JJ back home, same with Pope and Kie, and me and John. The next morning i got in my bathing suite as we all gathered at the boat and went on the boat driving out on the marsh.
