T opens the front door to her run-down apartment. "I'm home," she says as she takes off her shoes. No one answers, she walks into the living room to see her mother talking to a man on the couch. T heads straight to her room when her mom calls out her name "Tiana Kaylen Jackson, come back in here," T rolls her eyes at the sudden loudness. "Don't you see we have company come say hi," her mom says to her as she makes her way back to the living room. T hated when her mom had company, it's like the company was all that mattered to her mother. Truthfully it was all that mattered to her and T knew this. Ts mom hated being alone, that's why she never stayed still. She was aways out, "making friends," but all they every did was hurt her, and guess who picks up the pieces... T. T gives an awkward closed mouth smile "hello nice meeting you Mister," T tries to sound as friendly as she could but it took too much out of her to offer anymore. The man looks her up and down making her feel uncomfortable. "Hello young lady, you look just like you're mamma," he says. The words out of his mouth came off as creepy but familiar to the young girl. T gives a slight thank you to the rough, older-looking white man and walks off. She goes to the kitchen to see there wasn't any food and it was a mess. "Damn I just bought that, we were supposed to eat it and talk about my first day." T thinks to herself. The frown on T's face grew as she realizes the bags by the front door. "Please don't tell me," she turns to go back into the living room,
"mom?" T says but the older lady was so into her conversation that she didn't acknowledge her daughter's presents. T says it louder "MA" she shouts adding bass in her voice. Her mother looks at her with anger in her eyes "you better be out of your mind yelling at me like that when I got company." T steps up in frustration "ma tell me you not letting this man stay here we ain't got no space for him! Where he going to sleep? We sharing a room!" T says with so much frustration that her voice breaks. Her mom sees the frustration in her face and pulls her to the side. "Listen it's going to be fine you can sleep on the couch and -" before she can finish T cuts her off "on the couch??? How is that fair? You know what" T gives up on the argument "fine" T feels defeated but this is how it always goes. They fight, her mom goes too far, they don't talk, T feels guilty, and ends up apologizing. T felt like she was always in second place even when it came to her mom. "Tiana look at me.." t looks away trying to defuse her anger "look you can sleep in our room...me and him will sleep in the living room" the mother looks into T's eyes lovingly "I'm sorry look I'll make it up to you, here's 60$" t hesitates receiving the money. She knows her mom works a minimum wage job and she hardly works a good about of hours. Not to mention T made more than her mother and was paying for rent. But she was used to this, her mom always thought she could fix things with money and it hurt T. She wasn't something her mother could buy, the time she wanted to spend with her couldn't be bought. She just wants a....mom. She refuses "it okay mom I got paid yesterday" she walks away and places her things on the kitchen counter. She sighs and looks at the mess, T hated cleaning but she was always left with it. She felt so alone and ignored at her home. Her mom was hardly there and when she finally comes home after three days of not contacting her she brings someone home. The more she thought about it the more it made her mad, she puts in her headphones and blasts her favorite songs while cleaning the kitchen. T takes a deep breath and decided to make a group chat before she started cleaning.
