Maybe it wasn't the greatest idea to invite Linda and Frank Sr. over for tea to discuss the idea of their son going on vacation with Gerard's family. Maybe they should've let Frank discuss it with his family- which originally, was Gerard's idea- but Donna said she hadn't seen Linda in forever, the way her husband keeps her inside nowadays.

Mrs. Way and Mrs. Iero clicked right back into place, like they spoke just yesterday. Gossiping about other neighbors, exchanging recipes, even promising to take one another to their favorite boutique to show them where they bought the dress they were wearing.

But it was only a matter of time before Donna brings up Hawaii. She goes into detail, speaking so fast nobody can interrupt her. Gerard's mother knew how to work with Frank Sr., she gives them the time, the flight, the price (which Donna said she would pay, which a strangled noise comes from Linda's throat) and the overall experience that Frank would be having. She also thought it would be an advantage to say that she had first aid training.

Linda lets a large grin stretch across her face, opening her mouth to say something when Frank Sr. interrupts.

"No." His one word is stern and Gerard feels his stomach drop.

Frank is the first to react. "Why not?" He practically screams, voice laced with desperation, but not with surprise like everyone else, like Frank knew his father would say no.

"Because I don't want you leaving my house," Frank Sr. says, crossing his arms and leaning back in the chair he was sitting in. "It's not safe."

Gerard had a feeling it wasn't for Frank safety, well, if it was safety from the sins of homosexuality. The seventeen year old knows Frank Sr. assumes Gerard and his brother are big gaywads and Donna is a hippie for letting her sons actually live the way they wanna live, or dress the way they want to or do the things they want to. Scandalous, right?

"C'mon Frank, honey." Linda sips at her tea. "It'll be good for him. He told you he did well on his exam, wouldn't a reward be suffice? He worked extremely hard."

"No, Linda-"

"If I may interject," Donna paints on a smile, looking between Frank Sr's pink face and Linda's desperate expression. "You both have known me since Frank was a toddler. Frank has slept over nearly a hundred times before and nothing has ever happened to him. I, with the help of my son Gerard, will keep a close eye on your son and bring him back in one piece." Which she adds a laugh, causing Linda to smile but Frank Sr. keeps his hard composure.

"That's reasonable," Linda states, using her knee to attract her husband's attention. "Isn't it, hun?"

"I suppose so," Frank Sr. purses his lips. "Okay, fine. You can go." He sighs, like he has suddenly became bored.

Donna just sat back in her seat, smiling into her tea. Frank and Gerard smiles at each other, the fifteen year old leaping into the bigger boy's arms. They were sitting on the floor so Gerard had to fight the fear of falling over with Frank on top of him. Frank Sr. wouldn't like that, and especially wouldn't like if Gerard to pop a boner. Yeah, the vacation would be a no go. As for Mikey, who was typing away on his sidekick, looking unamused as always.

Donna offered more tea. Linda accepted but Frank Sr. Declined. They left it at that.

After that hectic evening, Frank was dragged away from Gerard's side by his parents around dinner time. While his mother was washing the dishes from earlier and watching the lasagna in the over, Gerard came down to grab a coffee.

"No more coffee, Gerard." His mother calls over her shoulder as he tries to sneak past his mom. He groans, settling for a juice box. He opens the fridge and picks up a pack of chocolate pudding and a fruit punch juice box. Not a great combination but Gerard could live through it. He closes the fridge and spins around, coming face to face with his mother. He didn't even hear the water turn off.

"Uh, what?" He asks his mother, who was a little shorter than him so he was technically talking to her hairline. She takes a couple of steps back and crosses her arms over her chest.

"Why didn't you tell me you liked Frank?" She asks, like Gerard committed treason.

Gerard plays it off with a small, awkward laugh. "I don't?"

"Oh, yeah. That's not what I heard from Mikey. I sorta suspected it, and then I asked you brother." Donna explains, totally narking on Gerard's brother.

Wait, what? Mikey knew? Fucking shit.

"Mikey knew? I never told him I liked Frank! I never told anyone!" Gerard exclaims, arms raised in defense and a pink face he assumed he had. But it's gotta be firetruck red when his mother laughs and claps her hands. Gerard frowns at Donna's excitement.

"You just did!" She giggles some kind of knowing, mom laugh. Gerard scratches the back of his head in confusion. "Mikey didn't tell me anything. I don't even think he knows, but now I do!"

Gerard stares at her with a blank face. What the fuck? "Uh, what?" The seventeen year old considered himself pretty dumb but he actually can't believe he just sold HIMSELF out.

When she finally calmed down from her laughter, she put her hands on her hips. "Why did you tell me? I would've have- and I'm not- been angry." Donna asked, a bit sterner.

Gerard shrugs. "I guess I didn't want to accept it. It wouldn't work anyways." He suddenly didn't feel trapped in a corner by his mother. He felt relaxed and the atmosphere was comfortable. He felt like he could actually talk about his feelings, and he hasn't felt that in a while.

"Frank adores you, baby." Donna reassures, "I think you should go for it."

Gerard laughs awkwardly, and shakes his head. "No, nope, no way. We're just going to go on this trip and have a great time and I'll see him in a bathing suit that will be good enough for me." He rambles, not being able to collect all his thoughts into a single sentence. Or a three page essay.

Donna puts her hands in front of her chest in surprise. "Whoa, okay, too much information." She exclaims, but then laughs at the face Gerard makes. "And, yes, Frank can still go on the trip. I trust you- honestly, way more than I trust Mikes- and I believe you will behave."

Gerard exhales in relief. "Thanks, ma." He smiles, engulfing her into a hug, making sure not to drop his pudding cup and juice box.

"No problem, hun." She kiss his cheek as Gerard pulls away. "Start to pack, we're leaving in two days."
