Oh No

Ryan was at work, physically but mentally he was still trying to process that 1. Demons were real, and 2. one was living in his house. He was starting to think his heat-of-the-moment decision wasn't the smartest. He knew better than to trust a demon, but apparently, when put on the spot he forgets that. He couldn't focus on work but going home terrified him. The more time he spent dwelling on the subject, the faster time went. Before he could even stop his thoughts, it was lunch.

He had just started a show, Buzzfeed Unsolved with Brent, and to get closer he decided to go out to lunch with him. Talking about True Crime might take his mind off the literal demon waiting for him at home.

They went to a local cafe that wasn't too far from the office. It was small, but cozy, with dim lights and warm decor. It felt like a very nice place to talk about some murder. Brent sat down, looking a little more fidgety than usual. Ryan decided not to press the issue, as they weren't super close. Ryan hoped to change that, as a close relationship between co-hosts could help the chemistry of the show.

Ryan made his way to a seat by the window, it was the furthest seat away from the other patrons. Brent sat down with him, a stern look on his face. The look made Ryan uneasy, which lead to anxiety, which lead to rambling.

"I have this idea for an episode, I think it's pretty neat, anyway do you want coffee? or a sandwich, since it's lunch, haha..." Ryan went on, internally begging for Brent to stop him. He didn't. It wasn't a fun situation for anyone. At this rate, Ryan would take going home to the demon over this conversation any day.

"Listen, Ryan" Brent finally said, after many more stressful minutes of Ryan trying to keep a nonexistent conversation going. "I don't think I'm going to continue Unsolved" he looked like he was about to get up. Ryan froze, completely speechless. He didn't say anything else as Brent walked out of the coffee shop without another word.

This was bad, really bad. Ryan was now tapping his fingers on the table and bouncing his leg rapidly. He didn't know what he was going to do without a cohost. He found himself ordering endless coffees, it was his comfort drink, and no food. By the end of the hour, he was so hyper he could've ran back to the office. A common theme for the day was overthinking, then finding a nice distraction. But now that his brain was running fast enough to think about demons, work, and literally everything all at the same time, he felt like he could get back to his day job.

The rest of the whizzed by, his fear completely overshadowed her hyper-activeness. He got plenty of work done, he even got ahead on some projects. When the clock was reaching 5, his coffee was wearing down. Work let out, and for the drive home, Ryan pretended for that short while that everything was fine. He thought back to a simpler time, one where he didn't know if demons were real and he had a promising future for his new show.  The reality was that he would have to find a new cohost, or let the dream die out. It had already taken him so long to find Brent, he wasn't sure if he could find another person to do it by the end of the week.

The episode was already written out, all he needed was someone there. He gritted his teeth, trying to fight the anger that was rising in his chest. The phrase it's not fair played in his head over and over. It really wasn't.

Finally, he turned into the parking lot of his apartment. When he got to his door he hesitated for just a moment. Apart of him hoped it was all a fever dream, and that there were no supernatural happenings inside there. But his hope was quickly trampled when he saw it sitting on his couch.

"Welcome home" The demon, who had introduced himself as Shane said as soon as Ryan opened the door. It seemed oddly genuine, not all how Ryan imagined him to be. He thought all the charm he had previously noticed was just to get him to agree to let the man move in. But there he was, charming as ever.

Ryan fought that image, he did not find Shane charming. That was definitely not a thing.
