They finished their breakfast, Ryan giving reluctant compliments throughout the meal. It filled Shane with a warm feeling knowing Ryan could get over his pride for a few minutes to enjoy the breakfast.

"What are the plans for today?" Shane asked as attempted to wash the dishes. Ryan watched with amusement as the tall man failed, despite all the training. He was so focused on the way Shane's hands moved to really hear his question.

"Uh- I don't know, what do you want to do today?" Ryan replied after a moment, breaking himself out of the daze. He was grateful Shane wasn't looking.

Shane thought for a moment then suggested, "We could walk around, get a feel for the city" with his words Ryan realized that Shane really hadn't been there all that long. To be fair, he hadn't either. Ryan nodded to Shane's proposal while he took a sip of coffee.

As they were getting ready to leave, Ryan noticed his vial of holy was missing from the shelf. His mind immediately went to the mysterious visor Shane had over last night. Yet another spark of jealously shot through him as he thought about it.

Shane noticed the shift in Ryan's expression while looking at the bookcase. He walked up behind and tried to figure out what he was looking at specifically.

"Something wrong?" Shane asked, leaning down slightly so his head was right next to Ryan's. He noticed Ryan's eyes get slightly wider for a moment, then he shook his head.

"I'm fine" he assured Shane, acutely aware of how close he was. Shane seemed satisfied with the answer, so he backed up, but Ryan found himself longing for him to stay. He shook the thought from his head but it refused to move.

"Come on then, short stack" Shane called towards Ryan as he opened the door. Ryan took a hiss of air in, preparing himself for a long day.

It was about 4 pm, they were walking on the sidewalk towards the downtown area. They had passed few shops, but none of them really sparked an interest. Ryan debated asking about last night, and he decided now was as good a time as any.

"Did anyone come by last night?" Ryan asked, looking up at Shane. He wanted to play it off as if he didn't eavesdrop on the entire conversation.

"Oh, I guess you heard that" Shane began, looking a little embarrassed. Ryan took silent satisfaction seeing Shane's cheeks heat up. "Yeah, he's a friend from back home"

"you should've introduced us" Ryan said after a beat of silence. he wanted to hear Shane talk more about this friend. he couldn't exactly explain why, but he had to know everything.

"Maybe one day," Shane said, suddenly smiling wide as if recalling a memory. "He doesn't really like it up here. He worries a lot" Shane explained. Ryan noticed he hated how happily Shane talked about this guy. He shoved those feeling down, repressing this weird bout of jealousy.

"What's his name?" Ryan asked. He couldn't figure out why he still wanted to know even though any piece of information only made his envy grow.

"Ricky Goldsworth" Shane said, the pride evident in his voice. "I think you two would get along"

I doubt that, Ryan thought, his unfounded resentment of Ricky now digging into his thoughts. They continued to chat about Ricky, Shane looking back on some of his favorite memories. Every piece of information Ryan could get his hands on he stored away as if it were crucial.
