Ryan closed his eyes and pretended everything was normal for a second. If he tried hard enough, he could act like nothing was wrong, and that Shane was back for good. They would go to work together tomorrow and film another episode of unsolved.
But as Shane stopped kissing his neck, that fantasy came to a halt. "I'm sorry" He whispered, his hot breath sending goosebumps up Ryan's arms.
"For what, baby?" Ryan asked in a similar tone, tracing small circles on Shane's back. He didn't want to let go no matter what. If Ricky wanted to tear their relationship apart he would have to pry Shane from his cold, dead hands.
"I have to leave," He said, pulling back slightly to look Ryan in the eyes. That was a mistake. It just made it harder to say goodbye. He missed him already.
"You don't have to" Ryan tried to argue. he had no reason why, so he just kept talking. "Just stay with me, everything will be fine"
Shane smiled sadly and kissed Ryan's forehead, lingering there for a second before replying. "You know that's not true, I've already stayed too long" Shane anxiously glanced at his phone that was laying on the coffee table and knew Ricky was probably texting him right now.
"I don't want you to leave" Ryan pleaded, putting his arms around Shane's neck.
"You know I wish I could stay here too" Shane looked down at him, meaning every word. "But I have to get back before they notice I'm gone"
Ryan nodded slowly, understanding but not accepting. "You can tell him you got caught in traffic or something," Ryan said, laying his head on Shane's chest.
He should say no, he should go back to Hell right now. He knew that logically, but he just couldn't let Ryan down. "Fine, 10 more minutes, but then you have to let me leave"
"I make no promises" Ryan laughed slightly.
"I remembered some things," Shane told him, smoothing out Ryan's hair. Looking around the apartment now, it was starting to feel more like home. He knew he never really had a place in Hell, but here it felt like he belonged. It made no sense, but most things recently haven't. Sometimes he tried to explain to Ricky that he felt like an outsider in Hell, but he never understood.
Shane knew there was something else out there waiting for him. Maybe this was it.
"What was is?" Ryan asked, listening to Shane's calming heartbeat. The comforting sound helped him ignore the fact that Shane had to leave soon.
Shane smiled widely at the memory. "The first time you told me that you loved me"
"Don't remind me" Ryan laughed. The first time he said he loved Shane had been completely by mistake. Not that he regretted it at all, he just didn't mean to tell him so early on in their relationship. "That was so embarrassing"
"It was adorable" Shane argued. He had a growing feeling of warmth in his chest as the memory fully materilaized.
"What else do you remember? I would prefer it to be a non-embarrassing moment this time" Ryan chided. In truth, it was actually really comforting to hear that Shane remembered that moment.
"I know that I'm really bad at doing the dishes," Shane said as more memories started blossoming. Every moment spent with Ryan was providing him with a clearer image of his past. It wasn't all happy though. Ricky didn't lie when he said the last two months had been really rough. What Ricky failed to mention was that it was all because of him.
"Yes, you are" Ryan agreed with him a little too eagerly.
"Oh shut up," Shane said, laughing. The sweet moment was interrupted by Shane's phone ringing. He went to reach for it, but Ryan held onto him so he couldn't move.
