Ryan let out a long overdue sigh of relief as soon he's stepped through the threshold and into the apartment. The air smelled different, lighter. The lights were brighter, but not so bright it hurt. Everything was just a little bit better. He supposed if Hell were a nice place, people wouldn't be so scared of damnation, so it made sense that it was horrible.

"We made it back alive!" Shane beamed, also feeling the comfort of being home. Of course, with that relaxation came a stinging reminder of the decision he would have to make. He forced those thoughts down and smiled down at Ryan. He didn't have to think about any of that now, he was home.

"Barley" Ryan half-joked, falling down onto the couch. "All of your friends are assholes"

"I know, I'm sorry," Shane said, kneeling beside the couch and looking over Ryan. "I won't make you go down there again"

"You better not" Ryan responded with a small smile. He was aware of Ricky's clinginess before the visit, but he could have never imagined it was this severe. It wasn't just the outright possessiveness, but it was the little glares and general contempt he held for Ryan. Goldsworth was a complete mystery to him, none of his actions added up. One minute it looked like he was considering killing Ryan, the next he was teaching him how to fight?

"I'm sorry, about everything" Shane whispered, noticing Ryan's thoughtful look.

"Quit apologizing" There was no use. Sorry wasn't going to erase the trust he had broken.

"Does that mean you forgive me?" Shane said, like an excited puppy. Ryan's heart started beating faster and he attempted to manually calm it. He couldn't let his emotions take over.

"Not quite" Ryan shifted his gaze to the ceiling. Maybe if he didn't look into Shane's eyes then his adorable expression wouldn't be as effective.

"What can I do to make this better?" Shane was practically begging.

"I don't know... I don't want to be mad at you" Ryan reluctantly admitted. He was never good at being in a fight, but you weren't supposed to talk to the other person, right? he put his hands over his face as if to hid the admission.

"Then don't? We don't have to fight" Shane proposed, gently removing Ryan's hands and looking down at him. Shane brushed back a piece of Ryan's hair.

"You're not going to lie again, right?" Ryan was slowly giving in, unable to resist any longer. He just needed to hear Shane say it.

"I swear" Shane promised, putting one hand over his heart. "I will never lie to you again"

"Good" Ryan responded before pulling Shane in a kiss. restraining himself from Shane, even just for a few hours, was proving to be much harder than he thought. That made their eventual kiss all the sweeter.

Shane smiled, relieved all the fighting was over now. Ryan was wrapping his arms around Shane's neck and pulling him as close as possible, taking comfort in his warmth. Shane crawled onto the couch as his heart rate started to increase. His smile only grew wider as he placed his hands on either side of Ryan's head and straddled his body.

Shane's wandered under Ryan's shirt, to which Ryan started laughing quietly.

"What do you think you're doing, big guy?" he giggled, shifting slightly into a more comfortable position.

"I'm just taking the sweater you stole from me back" Shane responded in a low voice. Ryan continued laughing, half because of Shane's touch and half because he was just so happy to be home. These were moments he cherished, these were the moments that made it all worth it.

"Oh sure," Ryan rolled his eyes and allowed for Shane to pull the shirt over his head. "A likely excuse"

Shane reconnected the kiss with surprising ferocity, making Ryan gasp lightly. goosebumps formed on Shane's neck at the sound of this and deepened the kiss with a growing desire. Ryan tangled his hands in Shane's hair and pulled him closer, the mutual lust for each other driving their actions.

Ryan's phone started buzzing but neither of them paid it much mind. it was only when calls started coming through that they gave in and stopped kissing and reluctantly checked who was interrupting them. Ryan slid out from beneath Shane and reached for his phone, which was on the coffee table. He almost answered the call, until he registered the name.

Ellie.

He stared down at the phone, an uncomfortable sense of deja vu washing over him. Shane noticed the shift in Ryan's tone and moved to look over his shoulder, his face contorting in disgust.

"Ugh, let me talk to her" Shane said, reaching over to grab the phone.

"Can I trust you'll be nice?" Ryan moved the phone farther away from Shane and looked back at him with accusatory eyes. Yes, what Ellie had said was still upsetting him, but he didn't want to burn all his bridges. He had to be the bigger person in this situation, which meant being civil even when you wanted to kill her.

"Not at all" Shane smiled and snatched the phone before Ryan could stop him.

"Ryan, I'm sorry-" She started as soon as Shane picked up. He wasn't going to wait for her to finish and immediately put a stop to her harassment.

"Stop calling my boyfriend, you homophobic, selfish, b-" Shane started, his voice never increasing in anger, his words portrayed his message clearly enough.

"Shane, no!" Ryan sputtered out, surprised by how quickly the conversation had escalated.

"What the hell is going on?" Ellie asked. She was furious, it was a tone Ryan recognized well.

"Ellie, I'm sorry" Shane shook his head while Ryan spoke to her. "But you really do have to stop calling"

"What do you mean, we can't be friends? Now I'm worried about you honey..." She said, her tone softening.

Shane slightly scrunched up his nose at the affectionate nickname, but he kept his mouth shut for now.

"You want to be friends? Just like you and him were friends?" Ryan asked, feeling a pain strike through his chest.

Shane saw the pain on Ryan's face and instantly took the phone.

"Stop calling" He said simply before hanging up. Shane moved to put his arms around Ryan to comfort him. but stopped when he noticed Ryan's expression.

He was smiling. Why? Ryan noticed Shane's confusion and looked up at him, his eyes gleaming.

"I could have never done that before" He said with pride. He felt free of Ellie's grasp that she had over his life for so many years. Even moving away he couldn't escape her, even going to Hell she still found a way to sink her claws into him. But with Shane, he was invincible.

Ryan planted a kiss on Shane's cheek, amused that he was still in a state of bewilderment.

"Let's watch a movie" He suggested, sitting next to Shane on the couch.

"Ok, but no horror movies" Shane said, putting his arm across Ryan's shoulders. He grimaced at the memory of Ryan staring wide-eyed at his phone all night, determined to know every little fact about the case. Of course, reading about it only freaked him out. He didn't sleep at all that night.

"Aww, why not?" Ryan looked up at Shane, pouting.

"Because you get no sleep when we do that" Shane reminded him.

"That was only because it was based on a true story" Ryan argued, grabbing the remote and already searching through the horror movies he had stockpiled.

Shane rolled his eyes. "Fine, fine" he agreed with faked annoynce.
