Bare The Burden (Prologue)

Prologue:

It's Been a Year, Let Me Give You a Rundown

Doesn't feel like a year. But it has been. But last year, I wasn't the only one that had a quest. Percy Jackson, The Son of Poseidon, had a quest to secure The Masterbolt of Zeus, which was stolen from him by the man I called my mentor: Luke Castellan. Percy was successful, thanks to his own tactics, his new friend Annabeth Chase and his best friend, Grover Underwood. Percy did have a dangerous challenge however, Ares held onto not only The Master Bolt, but Hades' Helm of Darkness and tried to dupe Percy by giving him them in secret. Percy and Ares clashed, where Percy came out on top.

As for how Percy found out it was Luke? Well, last year, Luke used Holy Water to try to kill me. After that, he found Percy and lured him into a false sense of security, using a Pit Scorpion. Percy and I were both almost killed that day.

After that, Percy went back to his mortal mother. And me? Not so simple.

I went out in search of the bounty hunter, Vandhaul, a Son of Ares who was a close friend of my Dad, Dante. After he heard my story, Vandhaul became my legal guardian and new mentor. And he was much kinder than you'd expect for a Child of Ares, the God known for being able to spark anger in anyone? The god of offensive warfare and the God who relishes in the Bloodshed of War? That Ares? Vandhaul is only distinct as a Child of Ares for his Strength, Leadership and Warrior Capabilities. Other than that, Vandhaul is a caring father, mentor and guild master.

Also, if you're curious, Bounty Hunter Guilds are not like shows like Dog the Bounty Hunter. It is much more fun than that. Instead of finding people who have missed court dates or finding fugitives. We hunt the demons who want to kill humans and run a muck as a result. These can result from Imps, to Hell Vanguards, even Gigapedes. These guilds work in the shadows of daylight and rely on Devil Arms to fight these demons. Many are mortals, many more demigods, other monsters like Harpies and Cyclops, even Cambions like my father. What about me? I'm a Demigod too except I'm the son of a Goddess and The Legendary Devil Hunter, The Younger Son of Sparda, Dante; so I'm more of a Cambion Demigod.

I was able to keep that a secret for a while. Until hell broke loose.

After that, I left for the first time since I got there. That's when I found Vandhaul.

As for what happened during the year, well...

I now go to Meriweather College Prep, where Percy has gone to this year also. I've also kept up with my bounty hunter work and kept track of Luke under orders from Chiron. However, right now, tonight, I've got a job with Vandhaul. A fire demon is running a muck. So, shall we get going?
