Chapter 8:

An Audience with The Lightning Thief: Luke Castellan

That night I went to the beach, Vandhaul ordered us to meet up there. With the essentials of course. Percy was already there.

"Hey Percy," I said, "You talking to your Dad?"

"Yeah," He said, "I waited for a year and the response I got was being embarrassed by him."

"Of what?" I asked, "Tyson?" I shook my head, "Percy, Lord Poseidon did this because he cares,"

"Luke said a year ago that the Gods don't really care," He said, "But, why did he compare you to him? Vandhaul I mean."

"Well," I said, "I can understand," I held onto my five beads on my neck, "Me and him, we were close. He was the best, and I mean the best. I hear the other campers call you the best sword fighter since him, but you and I both know that he'd beat us easily."

Percy let out a slight laugh, "You trained with Luke for four years, right?" Percy asked,

"Yep," I answered, "What I'm good at Percy is like my father, adapting to my enemy. Luke trained me to capitalise on that. However, his training was way more harsh the latter two years."

"Hm?" Percy said, looking confused,

I looked at Percy and traced my finger from my right eye to the right side of my jaw. "Luke went on a quest, to the garden with the golden apples." I explained, "The pity was the biggest embarrassment to him." I began to think back, "When he told me that, he told me about Thalia too. He was angry at the Gods, not only for letting him walk alone, but for that quest too." I looked at Percy, "Please, with Tyson, you care about him, right?"

"Of course I do, he's been my best friend for a whole year, you know that." he said,

"Please," I pleaded, "Don't make the same mistakes Luke and I have done, Luke with me, along with myself and my sister."
"Sister?" He asked,

Before I could explain, a jogger approached us both, "Percy Jackson," he said, "And Lux Redgrave I presume?" We looked at him, the jogger looked like Luke, except older, like in his 30s. "May I sit with you both?"

We both nodded and he sat down, then picked up a phone,

"Hello?" He said, he listened. Two small snakes writhed up and down the antenna, "yeah," he said, "listen - I know but... I don't care if he is chained to a rock with vultures pecking at his liver, if he doesn't have a tracking number, we can't locate his passage... a gift to humankind, great... you know how many of those we deliver - oh, never mind. Listen, just refer him to Eris in customer service. I gotta go."

He hung up, "Prometheus I assume?" I asked,

"Yes," The Jogger said, "Sorry about that. The overnight express business is booming. Now, as I was saying -"

"You have snakes on your phone," Percy pointed out,

"Yes, they don't bite. Say hello, George and Martha."

'Say hello, George and Martha' said a raspy male voice in our heads,

'Don't be sarcastic,' said a female voice,

'Shut the f-'

"Okay, okay," The Jogger said, "No need for profanity George." he slipped his phone back into his pocket.

"Who are you?" I asked,

"Come now Lux," The Jogger said, "I'm sure you've made the connection between myself and Luke," he took out the phone, "Original form please," The phone glowed a brilliant blue. It stretched out into a two meter long wooden staff with wings, the snakes grew larger and coiled together. It was a caduceus.
