Chapter 1:
Bounty Hunting on a School Night
So, where do most demons appear in, they can be the following: Graveyards, dark alleyways and certain churches. This one always appeared in a graveyard.
"The eyewitness accounts say that this guy is like a manticore." I said, "However, no description of a scorpion tail, or him launching poison quills are accounted for."
"Yep." Vandhaul said, "and it's described to be ablaze constantly, and it has a horse like body."
"So what do you think?" I asked him,
"If I had to guess, it would be a demon from the Fire Hell of the Demon World." Vandhaul replied,
"Fire Hell?" I asked, curiously,
"Fight now," Vandhaul said, looking at a Lion head, human torso and a horse-like lower body rising from the earth in a portal ablaze. It was lugging around a sword that was the size of Vandhaul.
"Berial." Vandhaul said, "The King of the Fire Hell."
Berial looked at Vandhaul and myself and approached us slowly. Like he was ready for us, regardless of what we did.
"A Son of Ares and a Legacy of Sparda." it said, its voice was almost like it was growling the words and they just formed like a dog trying to say hello, "are you here to challenge me?"
"Fight you?" I asked, "Hardly." I drew my sword, Moonshadow, forty three inches of luna silver that glowed in the light of the moon, "We're here to kill you."
"No offense big guy," Vandhaul said, "But you're a bit too fiery and, well, dangerous to leave alive." He drew his sword, a sword that was manifested by the quest his father sent him on as a rite of passage: The Devil Sword Lilith.
Berial swung his giant sword at us both, we jumped back a fair distance. The area where Berial swung the blade was ablaze now also.
"Wanna take the first move Lux?" Vandhaul asked,
"Leave it to me!" I exclaimed, "Dark slayer!" I've had a year worth of practice with my styles. Dashing forward and slashing Berial's left legs were a cinch. Berial's tail tried to whip at me , I dodged out of the way and shot at Berial's right hind leg with Ebony, a semi-automatic pistol which Dad gave me last year. Berial roared out, either in pain, or like he was ready to burn us to crisp, (with big demons, you never know.)
"Nice one, kid!" Vandhaul yelled, opening fire on Berial right front leg with his own Lever Action Shotgun (his favoured firearm).
Berial launched a large fireball from its mouth. Aiming at Vandhaul. Using Quicksilver style, (Which is still five seconds), slowing down time and getting between Vandhaul and Berial. Using the demonic steel shield Charlie Beckendorf gave me, I parried the fireball, with high difficulty.
Berial roared and in a cyclone of fire, disappeared within them.
"Dang it!" I exclaimed,
"Dang it, is an understatement." Vandhaul added, "We can deal with him later. Let's get you home, you've got school in the morning."
"Right." I said, as we began walking peacefully out of the graveyard through the New York streets.
It's honestly peaceful at night, well, as peaceful as it can be for the mortal realm. The streetlights gave us a lot of visibility. But since it's nearing the beginning of summer, people are out partying, getting drunk, and going through all forms of debauchery that many young adults do; so it leads to it being ridiculously loud. Honestly, Camp Halfblood was quieter. But I found myself at home in Crow's Claw, guess that's the demon inside of me I guess.
