I was feeling even worse about the situation with Peter when the next day came around. I had decided to apologise so when I saw him outside his biology class, I rushed over.

"Peter!" I say, and he turns to look at me, almost surprised. "I just wanted to apologise for rushing off the other day."

"Oh, it's fine," he says. "Something had happened with your friend so I understand."

"Yeah, but it was kind of a false alarm, and my friend's okay, so I felt a bit bad for what happened," I explain.

"It's okay. Maybe you can make it up to me one day?" He says, and then walks away, but not without giving me a wink.

Any other girl would be blushing like hell by now, but I wasn't. And I didn't know if that was a bad thing or not.

I turned to walk away down the hall, but someone taps on my shoulder. A short girl with blonde hair and blue eyes stood in front of me. She was wearing a summery dress and even had sunshades resting on her head, even though it was bleak and bad weather outside.

"Are you this Evelyn chick?" She asked.

"Uh, yeah," I say.

"Right, well, first off, why are you messing with Peter?" She crosses her arms over her chest, glaring me down.

"I'm not messing with Peter, who told you that?"

"Don't lie to me. Peter's off limits and you need to be taught that," she exclaims.

"Who even are you?" I ask.

"None of your business," she says, stomping her foot on the ground.

I snort, "right, okay. I'm going to just leave you to have your toddler tantrum so I guess I'll be seeing you."

"Don't walk away from me!" She demands.

"I don't take orders from five year olds," I say.

"Wow, aren't you a bitch?" The girl says.

My grip tightens around my books that I'm holding in my hands. "You can have Peter," I say calmly.

"I will," she says, "once he's over you. So I suggest telling him that you can't be with him."

"I think you should calm down," I say.

"And if I don't?" She says, raising her eyebrows. "What are you going to do about it? Huh, bitch?"

I thank lord that no body was in the hallway when I raise my hand up, and just as I'm about to give her a fist sandwich, someone's hand slips into mine and begins pulling me through the doors.

I look up and find Ashton there, tugging me through University. Neither of us say anything, but once we're out of sight, Ashton begins using more speed, and I do too. We find ourselves in the forest by the school, just running around the trees. I was actually kind of.. Having fun. I knew Ashton was doing this to calm my mood down, and it was definitely working.

No words were spoken, but they weren't needed. Right now, I just needed to let off some steam, so that's exactly what we did.

Thirty minutes passed before Ashton finally started to slow down. I copied and soon we came to a clearing in the trees.

"Who is she?" I finally ask, referring to the girl who had pounced at me earlier.

"Cassie Bennett," he says after a pause. "School's number one bitch. You can't say a word to her without her biting your finger off."

"And she hates me because.."

"You went on a date with Foster," he finishes, sounding off.

I scoff, "she can have him."

"Date didn't go well?" Ashton raises his eyebrows and leans against a tree.

"He fancies someone else."

Ashton looks down at the ground. "So you wanted to date him?"

"No," I say and Ashton looks back up, meeting my gaze. "He fancies himself."

"True," Ashton chuckles a bit. I couldn't help but notice his dimples and how he kind of looks.. Cute. "What was the thing with calling me about yesterday?"

"Oh yeah, about that," I grin guiltily. "The waiter was bringing out garlic bread and I needed a get-a-way. I was going to ring Alexis but it clicked your name."

"Your acting skills are great," he says and I can hear the sarcasm in his voice.

"I was always very good at drama," I mock offence.

He shakes his head and smiles. "So you're cooled off? Not going to go back in there and bite her head off?"

"I tend to bite necks, not heads," I correct.

"Funny."

"Aren't I just?"

I rest my back on a tree trunk and slowly slip down it until I'm sat on the floor with my legs cuddled up to my chest.

"I sometimes want to bite people," Ashton says, sitting next to me against the tree.

"Me too," I admit. "Probably not as much as you though, 'cause of the power thing about being able to control it."

"Yeah," Ashton turns his head to look at me. "Why don't you?"

"I don't want to start, and enjoy blood, because it'd put my friends in danger," I explain. "I don't like the idea of drinking it either. Seems unnatural, even if my ancestors do it daily."

Ashton hums in agreement.

"How about you?" I ask him, also turning to look at him. His face was inches away from mine but neither of us made an attempt to move.

"Same reason really," he says. "My friends mean a lot to me."

I nod slightly, "mine too."

"Some of the traits in a vampire really annoy me," he explains.

"Why's that?"

"The sun, for starters, well, I hate having to avoid it at all costs," he says. "I wish I'd spent more time outside when it was shining before I was eighteen."

"I haven't really experienced it," I shrug. "Since I only just became eighteen."

"Well, it's annoying as hell," he says.

"Have you ever been burnt by it?"

"Not exactly."

"You don't sound certain," I say.

He stays a bit silent before saying, "my arm got caught out by it when I was drawing my curtains on an afternoon."

"Oh," I frown.

"It's not a big deal," he insists.

I gulp, "It is to me."

At that point I didn't even know what I was doing when I leaned into him and my eyes fluttered closed. But at that moment, a ringtone began going off.

Ashton and I immediately pulled back and I let out a shaky breath while Ashton got his phone out from his back pocket.

"Yes?" He says into it, the impatience clear in his voice. Mumbles came from the other end of the phone but i couldn't hear any proper sentences. "Fine, whatever. I'll be there now."

He hangs up and takes a while to put his phone in his pocket, clearly wasting time.

"I have to go," he says, now standing by a tree further away from me.

"Okay," I say, standing up.

"I guess I'll see you later?" He asks.

"Sure," I give him a weak smile. "Bye."

He begins rushing away, whereas I turn and sprint into the woods, determined to clear out these thoughts.
