I hated dreams. Or nightmares, you could call them. Sometimes I got them when I was younger, and they were the worst. Most people have nightmares about their fears; death, monsters. So why were there normal people in my old nightmares?

Uncle Theo would come rushing in at the sounds of my shouts, sniffles and heavy breathing. He would comfort me until I fell asleep again. Of course, there were questions of what the dream was about, but how was I supposed to answer a question I didn't even know myself?

Last night was the same. The nightmares appeared. This time though, I was ten years older, and they weren't as effective. That didn't stop me from being slightly scared though.

My uncle's phone wasn't receiving calls, so that was just great. Every time I attempted to ring there would be this continuous buzzing sound, that rang in my ears. In the end, I just gave up and settled for being a patient vampire. Besides, the dreams can't affect me unless I let them.

".. So it's settled," Alexis smiles, after we've had a long discussion of doing something this weekend.

"Wait, what?" I ask, and all the people sat around the lounge turn to look at me with confused expressions. "Sorry, I blacked out."

"It's okay," Alexis says from the other sofa. "We're thinking about going to the beach on the weekend."

"Okay," I say, happily. And then it hits me like a ton of bricks, and I look at Ashton, eyes wide.

Ashton and I can't go anywhere near a beach, where the sun will be shining. We'll burn, we'll die! Michael and Luke seemed pretty oblivious to the situation, as they just continued to smile and chat.

Ashton turned from where he was sat beside me, furrowing his eyebrows. While the others get into a discussion about something else, I ask him quietly, "what're you doing?"

"Sitting down..?"

"No, smart-ass," I whisper. "We can't go to the beach. We'll burn to death!"

It was as if he was trying to get us killed. He didn't even seem fazed.

Ashton raises an eyebrow, "do you trust me?"

My face softens. "Well yeah but-"

"Good," he says. "Continue trusting me because I'll get us out of this."

"How exactly will you do that?"

He just winks and turns back to the discussion, joining in with it. I huff and slouch down in my seat.

-

"I just realised something," Luke suddenly says from where he's stood packing for our trip to the beach for a couple of days, staying in a hotel. It was all booked now.

I raise my eyebrows, as if to tell him to carry on, and Michael asks, "what?"

Luke turns towards me, leaning on the wall, "how're you going to go to the beach?"

"Oh yeah," Michael says, eyes widening. He drops the t-shirt that he was in the middle of folding and turns to me. "You could die."

"I know," I say and just as I'm about to add something, Luke jumps in.

"Wait, what?" He says. "You're just going to happily-"

I chuckle, "no. I was going to say, that I know but Ashton told me to trust him, he's going to sort it out."

"So you do?" Michael asks.

"Do what?"

"Trust him?" He says. "Do you?"

I think for a second before nodding, slowly at first. "Yeah, yeah I do."

Michael hums in reply, before getting back to packing.

-

"Hungry?" I ask Ashton when I see all of the tins of food lying on his bed.

"Definitely," he says, sarcastically, as if he's going to eat it.

"What's with that?"

He shrugs, "well, you said you trust me so.."

"And I do."

"Good," he smiles, placing a kiss on my lips before going back to packing up his stuff. "You've packed?"

"Not yet," I admit. "I'm just going around annoying everyone at the moment."

"You're doing a good job of it," he teases and I roll my eyes.

"I'm going to go speak to Alexis. She doesn't offend me," I say, turning on my heal and going to leave the room.

"I didn't mean it," he says defensively.

"Whatever," I say, keeping up the act.

"Do I not at least get a kiss goodbye?" He asks, pouting.

"Hmm, no," I shake my head but smile all the same.

"Please, baby," he takes a step towards me and I feel heat rise to my cheeks. "One kiss?"

I sigh and slowly wrap my arms around his neck, my fingers playing with his hair. I bring his head down towards mine - since he's taller than me - and our lips meet. His hands are placed on my hips. When we pull apart, I resist the urge to put our lips back together.

"Bye, sweetheart," I wink.

"Bye, babe," he says before I shut the door behind me. The effect he had on me was unsafe.

"Hey Evi," Calum says, walking up the hallway with plastic bags in his hands.

"Hey," I reply, wanting to chuckle because of the luckiness of Calum's arrival time. If he had been a minute earlier, he'd have had a surprise.

"You all packed for the beach?" He asks.

"Almost," I lie. I hadn't even attempted to move any of my stuff, let alone get out my suitcase, but I didn't want to explain this to Calum.

"Well, I guess I'll see you in a bit?"

"Sure," I smile, walking down the hall and towards mine and Alexis' room.

She was pulling clothes out of her chest of drawers and folding them, before putting them into a suitcase. She turns to look at me, smiling, and then looking back to what she was doing.

"Packed?" I asked, sitting on the bed next to her suitcase.

"Almost," she says. "I can see you haven't done anything."

"We have time," I shrug.

She hums and continues packing, "excited?"

"Sure," I say. But the truth is, I wasn't. I was still very worried about Ashton's plan going wrong and me ending up a pile of dust.

"The beach here is good," she exclaims.

"So I've heard."

She turns around with her mouth hanging open, "you've never been to a Sydney beach?"

I decide on lying, to save me from explaining why I hadn't. Obviously I couldn't because Uncle Theo could never take me when I was younger, and I couldn't go when I was older, it was too risky. "Not in a while."

She nods, folding up a pair of shorts.

Sometimes I wish I was a full human, because life was so much easier for them. Being a vampire makes you miss out on some great things in life, great things that I wanted to try.
