~That Night~
“Hey, Legoshi, is Aimi going to be okay? Juno told us about her being bedridden,” Dom said, after greeting Juno when she stepped into the tent.
“She’s okay. She got a bad scratch, but she’ll be okay,” Legoshi said.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Legoshi heard a familiar voice say, his ears perking up a bit.
“Aimi?!” the members said, sounding surprised. Aimi wheeled herself into the tent, sitting in a wheelchair.
“Hi,” Aimi said, waving gingerly.
“Hey, we’re glad you made it,” Dom said.
“The nurse was nice enough to get me a wheelchair, so I can get out of the room a bit. I’m sure she was just tired of people coming in to check on me,” Aimi said, before looking at Juno. “Wow, Juno, you look great. Red is definitely your color.”
“Thank you, Aimi,” Juno said, hiding her anger toward Aimi, before looking at Legoshi, who was looking at Aimi.
“Is Louis not here?” Aimi asked, looking around.
“No one has seen Louis since yesterday,” Sanu said. “We may have to cancel his performance, but we don’t know what to put in that place.”
“Oh...hm...” Aimi said. “I’m sure he’ll turn up.”
“Yeah...oh, Juno, you better head on,” Sanu said, shooing everyone out of the tent. Aimi wheeled herself out carefully, meeting up with Haru.
“Hey, you’re out,” Haru said.
“Yeah, I’ve escaped the nurse’s clutches,” Aimi said, chuckling softly. Haru chuckled as well and nodded.
“Good, you seem to be doing better,” Haru said.
“I am, I’m feeling much better.” Aimi said, wheeling herself over to the crowd, trying to look for a spot so she could watch Juno’s performance.
“Hey, Aimi?” Legoshi asked, walking up to her. “Can we talk? I have to tell you something important.”
“Sure, what is it, Legoshi?” Aimi asked, barely being able to hear Juno’s speech until she heard Juno announce something that made her body tense up.
“We had a change of plans. Instead of Louis performing, Aimi has volunteered to perform in his place,” Juno said, making everyone look at Aimi. “Why don’t you come up here, Aimi? You can’t perform well back there.”
“Uh...right. Legoshi, could you wheel me up, please?” Aimi asked, quietly. Legoshi nodded and carefully wheeled Aimi through the forming opening through the crowd up to the stage.
“I didn’t know you volunteered,” Legoshi said.
“I didn’t...” Aimi said. ‘What do I even do?!’ she thought, before looking at the crowd behind her as Legoshi carefully wheeled her onto the stage. Aimi looked up at Juno, before reaching for the microphone. Juno handed her the microphone, looking smug.
‘She’s going to act like a fool in front of the entire school!’ Juno thought, taking a few steps back. Aimi wheeled herself a bit more center stage, facing the crowd. She cleared her throat and tried to calm her nerves.
“Um, hello,” Aimi said quietly, her voice echoing through the microphone. “Um, this definitely slipped my mind, but I will be singing tonight. I hope that’s okay with all of you. I will be dedicating this performance to someone close to me,” she said, before looking on her phone for the instrumental version of the song she planned on singing. ‘Get it together, Aimi. You can do this,’ she thought, playing the music, before she worked up her nerves and started to sing:
Everybody needs inspiration
Everybody needs a song
A beautiful melody
When the night’s so long
’Cause there is no guarantee
That this life is easy
Aimi continued to sing, feeling her anxiety from being on stage begin to melt away and continued to sing her heart out:
Yeah, when my world is falling apart
When there’s no light to break up the dark
That’s when I, I
I look at you
Legoshi listened to Aimi, seeming surprised.
‘Her voice...it’s so soothing, like a lullaby,’ Legoshi thought, before looking at the crowd, who seemed to be in awe as well. He then looked at Juno, who was in shock as well, but also seemed angry. Aimi finished the song, going back to her shy timid ways as soon as she finished singing.
“And, that’s it,” Aimi said, handing the microphone back to Juno, before wheeling herself offstage carefully with Legoshi’s help.
“That was amazing, Aimi,” Legoshi said, wheeling her offstage.
“I’m glad you thought so,” Aimi said. “I think I’d rather go somewhere private. So we could talk about what you wanted to talk about.”
“Right,” Legoshi said, wheeling Aimi to an area that looked over the beautifully lit area below.
“What did you want to tell me?” Aimi asked, looking down at the beautifully lit area below.
“Well...” Legoshi began, before taking a deep breath, and looking over at Aimi. “I am in love with you, Aimi. I can’t stop thinking about you and whenever I’m around you, I just want to protect you as best I can. I want to make you happy,” he confessed, leaving Aimi silent. “Aimi?”
“Are you sure you want to be attached to someone like me, Legoshi?” Aimi finally asked quietly. “Someone who isn’t fully...an animal?”
“I don’t care about that, Aimi. You are one of the sweetest animals I know whether you’re half animal or fully. You risked your life for your friend. I don’t know many animals who would have done that,” Legoshi said, kneeling down to look at her face to face. Aimi blushed lightly and gently held Legoshi’s large hand.
“I love you too, Legoshi. I can’t say I’ve ever had anyone follow me into a lion’s den, knowing the risk, but it’s opened my eyes to what true loyalty is,” Aimi said. “I just don’t want you to hurt me, or for me to hurt you.”
“I would never intentionally hurt you, Aimi. Like I said, I want to make you happy as best I can,” Legoshi said. Aimi smiled and gently kissed his cheek. Legoshi smiled softly and carefully hugged her, his tail wagging happily.
“Thank you, Legoshi,” Aimi said quietly, enjoying Legoshi’s warm embrace.
