~The Next Day before Rehearsal~
Aimi had just finished setting up the lights and stepped back to see if they were positioned just how Legoshi taught her. The room was quiet, the sunlight shining through the window, bouncing off of her white shirt, giving her almost a glowing look.
“That looks good, I’ll ask Legoshi whenever he gets here,” Aimi said, tapping her chin a little with her thin index finger. Aimi was pretty thin, a result of her strictly vegetable diet. Other than her gray wolf tail and ears, she looked human. She had an innocent looking baby face, which didn’t match her thin, curvy body, which she would try to hide underneath her school uniform. She had gentle blue eyes, and soft skin, that looked too soft to be real. She was the only being in the school, who had hair, not fur, but actual hair. Thick, long, grayish-brown hair, that draped down to her torso. Her hair was always worn draped down her shoulders, but on some occasions it would be tied back into a ponytail. Today it was tied back into a ponytail, since she didn’t want it to get stuck in the lights. “Yeah I’ll get his opinion on it.”
“Or you could get mine,” a male voice said, causing Aimi to jolt slightly, the fur on her bushy tail standing on end. She turned around to see a silhouette in the doorway of the drama room entrance. Her heart sank when she saw the antlers, recognizing who it was quickly. She frowned and turned away quickly.
“I don’t want your opinion,” Aimi muttered, going to fix the lights again.
“It’s been a while, Aimi. You look nice, you’ve gotten a little bigger since I last saw you,” the male deer said, walking over to her.
“That’s because last time you saw me I was a freshman, and you were a sophomore,” Aimi said. “Now go away, I don’t want to speak to you, Louis.”
“I’ve thought about you since that happened. I couldn’t stop thinking about the day we met in the garden. You were singing to the flowers. I missed hearing your voice,” Louis said, standing behind her now. “I missed looking into your eyes and seeing kindness. You’ve been avoiding me for the past two years. Please just talk to me. Think about that day, the day we met,” Aimi couldn’t move, she didn’t want to, but she did begin thinking about the day they met.
~Flashback~
It was freshman year for Aimi, and it had been three days since she had joined the gardening club with the only other member, Haru, a dwarf rabbit who was a sophomore.
“Aimi, I have to go attend a study session, please tend to the tulips. They’re a little down today,” Haru said, heading to the door.
“Okay, I will get right on that,” Aimi said, adding it to her checklist. She continued to work as her club mate left the garden. Aimi continued to work through her list and filled a watering can to tend to the rows of sad looking tulips. “You poor lovelies. It’s okay, I’m here to help you. I’ll give you water and take care of you. Maybe a song will help brighten your spirits,” Aimi said happily, walking over to them. She showered them gently as she sang to the plants.
“But you’ll never be alone,
I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn,
I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn.
Baby I’m right here,
I’ll hold you when things go wrong,
I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn,
I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn.
Baby I’m right here.”
Aimi continued to sing to the tulips, even when she stopped watering them. She had gotten so caught up in the song she was singing, she didn’t realize that someone had entered the garden and was listening to her. Aimi turned around to water a few more plants and screamed. To her surprise a male red deer was standing merely feet away from her.
“I’m sorry that I scared you. I was passing by and heard you singing,” the deer said, Aimi’s face was now flushed with embarrassment. She turned to walk away from him. “You’re a freshman aren’t you?” he asked, making Aimi stop.
“Yes,” Aimi said softly, before turning back around to look at him. “Did you need something?”
“Your name,” he said.
“E-excuse me?” she asked, being a bit caught off guard.
“I need your name,” he responded, looking at her intensely.
“Aimi, my name is Aimi...but everyone calls me Wolf-girl,” Aimi said. “Who are you?” This question surprised the male deer, he expected everyone to know who he was.
“I’m Louis,” he said.
“Oh...hello,” Aimi said shyly, not being used to talking to others unless it was Haru.
“Hello,” Louis said, before an awkward silence filled the garden. Aimi looked around the room, trying not to lock eyes with Louis, who was still staring at her, observing her features. “What is it like?” Aimi finally looked at him, her ears switching slightly.
“Hm?” She tilted her head a little. “Pardon?”
“What is it like, being both a rare species and a carnivore?” Louis asked.
“It’s not so hard, and I’m not a carnivore, I’m very much vegetarian,” Aimi said, looking away from him again.
“Oh, sorry. I just assumed...” Louis said.
“Since I’m half wolf that I act like one? Well you’re wrong,” Aimi said, picking up the watering can. “Now if you’ll excuse me, the Marigolds need to be watered. You can let yourself out.” What he had said offended her, which made her shy behavior turn into sass. She walked past him and made her way to the other side of the garden to tend to the patch of Marigold flowers by the wall. Louis nodded, seeing that he had offended her.
“Well then...have a good rest of your day then, Aimi,” Louis said, heading to the door. He placed his hand on the handle of the door and looked over at Aimi, who was humming as she gently watered the flowers she towered over. He smiled to himself a little and left the garden.
~End of flashback~
“Do you remember, Aimi?” Louis asked.
“I do, and you were a jerk back then. I can see that you haven’t changed,” Aimi said, pushing him away a little, so she could walk away. Louis sighed, seeing that his attempt didn’t work, so he continued to try.
“You still gave me another chance back then, didn’t you?” Louis asked, following her.
“I did,” Aimi said.
“Then why can’t you give me another chance now?” Louis asked, now standing in front of her.
“Because I only believe in second chances. I gave you that chance, and you still hurt me,” Aimi said. “I’m not that dumb little freshman anymore, Louis. I’ve grown, and I’m not going to let you push me back into that corner of my life again,” she heard the door open, and looked over to see Legoshi standing in the doorway.
“Louis, you’re here early,” Legoshi said, walking over to the two. He stopped when he noticed how close the two were standing near each other. “Am I interrupting something?” he asked.
“No, Louis here was just trying to give me advice on something he truly doesn’t understand,” Aimi lied, feeling relieved that Legoshi arrived when he did.
“Oh, okay. Oh, cool you set up the lights perfectly,” Legoshi said, walking over to the lights that Aimi set up.
“I did? That’s great, I was hoping that I did them right,” Aimi said, her tail wagging happily. Louis noticed this and glared at Legoshi, before heading to his office.
“Yeah, good job, Aimi,” Legoshi said, smiling at her a little.
“Thanks,” Aimi said, really happy now. She was so happy that the discussion with Louis earlier had left her mind.
“Yeah, let’s get to the back, Dom wanted us to help with costume adjustments,” Legoshi said.
“Really? Awesome! I love working with clothes,” Aimi said, hopping a little. Legoshi watched her hop around, finding it adorable.
“Yeah? That’s cool. Well, we better get going,” Legoshi said, walking to the back, Aimi stopped her hopping and followed him. They sat in the back and waited for the rest of the art department to arrive.
