Chapter 22 - Apologies

Everyones pack starts heading back to their respective pack houses. I sit in the cave entrance, where Ariea sacrificed herself, and wonder where to go next. I feel a hand on my back and look to who it is, Phoenix stands there looking at me with sadness on his face. "We really need to talk, I want you to come back with the pack". I glare at him "why the hell would I go back when you have that girl to take care of you in ways I dont?" He smiles brightly "She found her mate and decided to go to his pack, you wouldnt have to see her anymore or worry about her". I shake my head, "Its not about her. It is the fact that I cant trust that you will not sleep with another female". "Im sorry! I have done everything I can to show you im sorry and im just about done! If you want to leave again thats fine but I wont chase after you anymore." A sharp pain runs through my chest when he begins to walk away. His pack gathers and leaves, im left alone. I want to go back but im scared to. My powers have been growing and consuming me, I dont want to risk hurting anyone. I get up and hesitantly walk towards the pack house I once stayed at.

About an hour later I walk into a clearing, the pack stands around a nature consumed house. I stay behind the group so that Phoenix doesnt see me yet, nobody notices that im there. Phoenix gives a speech about house repair, assigning jobs to everyone including children, they get simple jobs like helping their moms start a garden or going to pick flowers just so they can feel included. Once everyone starts doing their tasks, im the only one standing there in front of Phoenix, he gets a big smile across his face and moves towards me. "What made you come back?" I look around at everyone working "I cant just leave the pack that I care about." I refuse to look at him, he chose another person, even if she's gone now. I walk to the house and help out with removing overgrown plants from the exterior walls and door.

It's been days since the repairs started, the pack house is almost completely done being cleaned and decorated. I've chosen a room away from Phoenix, best to avoid him for now. I only see him when I attend meetings that I'm called to. He tried his best to communicate with me but I pretend he's not there. I've been caring for the kids and helping prepare meals, anything to keep myself busy.

~ Phoenix's POV ~

Shes been avoiding me for days now. I can't imagine what she's feeling. I'm going to surprise her and hopefully she will at least talk to me again. I just want to talk. I walk up to a few of the children playing in the gardens to ask them a favor. "Hello kiddos. Do you want to help me with a secret?" They all get smiles on their faces and sparkles in their eyes. "I need each of you to get a bundle of golden or red flowers and a basket of their petals please, but remember it's a secret so don't tell anyone." They all smile and giggle in delight. Each of them get up and run off to collect what I've asked for.
I've asked the cook to make a delicious meal and set it up in Minerans room. Once she gets home I'll be waiting to apologize to her. The flowers are in a vase, the table is covered in petals. Candles lit and dinner is ready. I hope she accepts my apology.
