Chapter 20 - Warmth

~Mineran's POV~

Its 7 am. Almost everyone had fallen asleep. Very few people are awake right now. Im currently leaning up against the wall, feeling completely alone. Phoenix keeps looking over here but his slut keeps clinging onto him and smiling at me. He doesnt seem to mind her doing that so maybe he has decided to stay with her. I wish I could go for a walk to clear my mind. My heart is so broken, Ariea was the only person I had left after losing my mate like that. I get up and walk around the very large cave, moving around sleeping people. Once I get to the back of the cave I see a child curled up next to his mother, both shivering. I look around and see a blanket not being used so I grab it and cover them both as best as I can. The mom looks at me an mouths the words 'Thank you' and I smile and nod to her. I turn around to walk back to my spot and see Phoenix standing in front of me.
"Oh I see youve left your whore back with the rest of the pack. What do you want?"
"First, shes not my whore, I dont want her. Second, I just want to talk to you Mineran. I miss you and I want you to come back into the pack." He seems hurt, but he hurt me too so I dont really care.
"Im not coming back, you fucked up and im not ready to forgive you. I dont think I ever will." I move past him and walk back to the closed entrance, laying down once I get there. I need Ariea, she was the only thing holding me together through this rough time.

~Phoenix's POV~

She's hurt. She misses her sister. I sit back down beside the rest of my pack, keeping my eyes on my mate. Its so quiet in the cave. Everybody is waking up but no one speaks. We all just sit here, wishing we were home. A noise is heard all throughout the cave. Everyone looks towards the entrance with sad faces. Shes crying and everyone can hear her. I get up to comfort her but sit back down, she doesnt want me around her. Instead a female from another pack moves towards her and sits beside her. She pulls Mineran up to sit and wraps her arms around her. Mineran start to cry harder and I can tell everyone can feel her pain. More people start to move over to comfort her, even kids try to help. She has a crowd around her, hugging her and hushing her. I want to help but I cant bring myself to get close to her anymore.
After an hour of crying she finally stops. Shes fallen asleep in the arms of someone else, I wish it were my arms.

Everyone is now chatting and sharing meals. Kids are playing and pack leaders are talking about merging or helping each other get their packs back on track after we can leave. Mineran is still asleep in the arms of another male, its pissing me off. I get up and walk over to them.
"Im gonna give you a break from holding her. Switch me places and go get some food." He nods and we carefully switch. Shes finally in my arms but I dont feel anything, no sparks, no urge to keep her safe. I know she is still my mate but we are both broken enough it doesnt feel like we are ment to be. I can hear her heart beating, and her breathing. Shes adorable but I dont know if I can fix us. I hold her tighter, wishing she would let me love her. Wishing she would let me be her protector. I cant do anything right when it comes to her. All I do is hurt her, but I cant fix it.

~Mineran's POV~

I can feel someone holding me as I start to wake up. I sit up and rub my eyes, looking over to the person holding me. Phoenix is there and he stares into my eyes.
He speaks quietly "Mineran, I love you. I know ive messed up big time and im sorry. I dont expect you to forgive me or say that you love me back, but im going to be here for you. No matter how hard you try to push me away im going to stay to protect and help you."
All I do is stare at him. My heart beats faster and I look around. Nobody is paying attention to us. I lean against Phoenix and sigh.
"Shut up and just hold me, please."
He wraps his arms back around me and nuzzles his nose into my hair. We both just sit there, enjoying each others warmth. Maybe I can let him back into my life slowly. Maybe we can be ok again.
