"It's okay, sweetie. I'm a pro hero! I'll help you!" Present Mic cooed, picking up the small, black haired child. She was skinny, covered in grime, soot, and injuries, and she was sobbing. Although she seemed to be about four, she was tiny enough for him to hold easily in one arm. As he began to walk her away, he could hear some people in the crowd.
"Is that Present Mic?"
"He looks so good in real life!"
"Wait, is that a kid he's holding?"
"He's saving yet another person!"
"He's such a good hero!"
He ignored the small group of girls and their fawning. All that mattered was protecting the frail girl in his arms.
"Please!" Hizashi Yamada begged his boyfriend. "Shouta, see sense!"
"Hizashi, we're barely adults! How can you suggest something so ridiculous?" Shouta Aizawa replied calmly.
"Shou." Hizashi put his hands on his boyfriend's shoulders and looked him in the eyes. "She's five and she's alone already. I rescued her, so now I feel responsible for her. Please. We can give her a chance." Shouta sighed.
"I understand what you mean and why you feel this way... I just don't know if we can take on this responsibility. Plus, we're only fifteen years older than her!"
"What happened to that 'we can do anything if we do it together' stuff?" The couple shared a smile.
"I'll agree to meet her. But I don't want to get her hopes up. Or yours, for that matter. We all know that I'm not big on children." A 'yiss' escaped the excitable blonde's mouth as he pulled Shouta into a tight hug.
"Hey there, sweetie! It's me again. How are you doing?" Hizashi bent down so that he was eye to eye with the girl. He was right, she was very small.
"I Hinami Hata..." She managed. A pang of pity struck Shouta's heart. They found out who she was, at least. But she was still in this foster home alone. There was something about her little lisp that was just so adorable.
"I'm Hizashi Yamada, and my hero name is Present Mic. This is Shouta Aizawa, or Eraserhead." Hinami looked up at Shouta, her wide grey eyes full of innocence. He started back, unsure of how he felt. She waddled over and lifted her arms up to him. He carried on standing there, staring at her.
"She wants you to pick her up, I think." Hizashi motioned. A bewildered look on his face, Shouta slowly bent down, picked her up, and straightened out again. As soon as he did, she snuggled into his scarf and her little fists gripped his shoulders weakly.
Something inside Shouta snapped.
He wrapped his arms tightly around the child.
"I still don't like kids." He murmured, seeing his boyfriend's smug grin.
