"Expelled?" Everyone yelled. I feigned ignorance and looked shocked too, although I knew that he wouldn't really expel anyone. At least not permanently.
"Yes. Now, let's come back to this event."
The other events were finished. My quirk didn't really allow me to do much, but I hadn't done terribly.
Everyone but me had now done their throw. Uraraka Ochaco had gotten the highest score; infinity. Her quirk seemed hard to control from an outside perspective. Baku-bo stood in second place, and his quirk seemed pretty simple. Just do a huge explosion as you throw. But how was I going to convince him to let me touch his head for long enough?
"So, Aizawa. I can use any tactic. As long as I stay in this circle?"
"Yes." I nodded. Making sure my feet stayed behind the line, I reached out and grabbed Aizawa's binding cloths. The rest of the class looked on in confusion. I threw the cloth out towards Baku-bo and trapped him, trying to not look too comfortable with the bindings.
"What the fuck are you doing?" He yelled, struggling to escape as I pulled him over to me. Shushing him, I put my hand on his forehead and silently counted to five. Once I reached five, I let him go and pushed him back over to the crowd. Then, I took the ball out of my pocket and wound up, imitating Baku-bo's movements.
"Your boom was nice. Now get ready for a REAL explosion!" I threw the ball forward with all my might and let out the biggest explosion I could muster. I was right. This quirk was easy enough to manipulate. The explosion was bigger than Baku-bo's, and the force whipped up my hair and pushed me back. As the smoke cleared, a pain shot through my arm. It felt like my arm was on fire and all my muscles were clenched. Aizawa came over to check that I was okay, which I was. As the effects of my quirk wore off, the pain slowly subsided.
The rest of the class had been silenced.
"Wh- That was my quirk! What the fuck!"
"That was even bigger than yours!"
"Does she have an imitation quirk? I heard Midoriya mumble. A smile crept onto my face. Baku-bo had helped me out a second time. One of the boys, Kirishima Eijiro, picked up the device that Aizawa had dropped. His mouth turned into a circle and his eyes glittered. The rest of the class clamoured to see my score. I wanted to know too.
705.3m.
"You beat me? You beat me with my own quirk?" Baku-bo screeched. I smiled at him, which seemed to enrage him even more.
"Shut up. Here are the scores." There was a beep and a small holographic screen showed everyone's scores. "And I'm not expelling anyone."
I looked for my own name. That last event had put me at a respectable seventh place. Baku-bo was third. The other two recommendation kids were first and second, of course. A pang of disappointment stabbed me. I should be up there with them.
"He's not expelling me!" Midoriya sighed in relief, clutching his broken finger. I looked at the board again, and his name was last. Why wasn't he being expelled?
"Lucky you!" Uraraka giggled nervously. Handing over a piece of paper, Aizawa spoke to Midoriya.
"Yes. Lucky you. Go to Recovery Girl." He nodded and ran off towards the nurse's office. "The rest of you can go get changed." We swiftly made their way back to class.
"Hinami. Is your arm okay?"
"Yes. It's fine now. I wasn't expecting that kickback." Me and Aizawa walked together in silence for a moment before he chuckled.
"Aizawa? You were serious, then?"
"Of course I was." I snapped. "Like, I said. I don't want anyone to treat me differently. Nobody wants to hang with the goody-two-shoes teacher's kid."
"You're definitely not a goody-two-shoes."
"They don't know that yet."
"I think they do." We both smiled at each other before going our separate ways.
At lunch, much to his annoyance, I chose to sit with Baku-bo and the people who had decided to befriend him.
"Hey Baku-bo! Kirishima, Kaminari, Sero, Ashido. That right?" The pink girl pulled me into the seat next to her.
"You can just call me Mina! That was so cool!"
"What was?"
"You copied my quirk!" Interrupted Baku-bo, slamming his hands on the table.
"Yeah, I did. That shit hurts dude. My arm felt like it was on fire." He leaned forward so that our noses were almost touching.
"Good." He said in a low voice.
"Bakubro..." Kirishima laughed nervously, pushing the spitfire back into his seat.
The rest of lunch was pretty fun. Mina is excitable and bubbly, Kaminari is pretty dense but has a good sense of humour, Sero's a flirt and is a people-person all over, and Kirishima is pretty soft and loveable despite his hard quirk. And Baku-bo is just Baku-bo. I got along with them quite well.
After lunch, I sat in my seat next to Todoroki. I hadn't seen him at lunch, and he had a sullen look on his face, as usual.
"Hello again, Todoroki." He looked over at me, his expression unchanging. "How are you?"
"Why are you making small talk?"
"I'm not. I'm asking how you are. You never look very happy. I thought that you were just really serious when we first met at the entrance exam, or that nerves were getting to you. But you're still grumpy now so... I was checking in on you, I guess."
"How nice of you." He replied flatly, turning away. When he realised that I was still looking at him intently, he turned back around and added. "I'm fine. I just don't see any reason to be acting so jovial."
"Let me guess." I chuckled. "You aren't here to make friends, you're here to become a hero?" He nodded seriously. "Well, tough. You've already failed." He looked taken aback. That's the most expression I'd seen him show so far; what good progress!
"What do you mean?"
"You've already made a friend." A bewildered look covered his angular features. I had a sudden thought. "Mido! Uraraka! Iida!" The three had just entered the classroom, and came over to us.
"What seems to be the problem, Hata?"
"You three will be Todoroki's friends, right?"
"I'll be his friend!" Mido yelled, a little too quickly. Uraraka laughed and agreed.
"There we go. Now you have four friends, Todo."
"Todoroki." He corrected. I looked at him for a moment before nodding.
"Todo." He took a deep breath and looked back down at his desk, accepting his fate.
"Why are you being so nice?" I shrugged.
"You looked like you needed someone to be nice to you." Clearly unhappy with my answer, the boy opened his mouth, but was cut off.
"Class. I hope you all had a good lunch. It's time I explain our woodland training programme."
