(The door opens and Pastor Steve walks in; he is distraught and clutching his Bible.)
STEVE: Mike I need to talk to you right now.
FUDGE: What is it Steven?
ISAAC: Should I leave?
FUDGE: Perhaps give us a minute or two.
STEVE: No actually you should probably stay for this. I can't keep this in anymore. I can't. I cannot do it. I am not going to make it through this night if I don't tell you what I know.
ISAAC: Make it through this night...
FUDGE: What are you getting into here, Stevey?
(Steve has to make himself take the leap, but he knows he cannot hold onto this any longer.)
STEVE: She came to me earlier tonight. Right before the storm really hit, and I mean just before it. I was in here during the first part of the revival and she stumbled in here looking intoxicated and crazy.
FUDGE: Why are you just now telling me this?
ISAAC: Why did she come to you? And how did she reckon you were in here?
STEVE: She didn't know.
ISAAC: What do you mean she didn't know?
STEVE: You guys have to believe me when I say I am not a bad guy. I should have told you sooner.
FUDGE: Calm down there Son we have all had a little shock and we're trying to keep our heads on the best we can. Now what did she say to you? Is it gonna help us know what was going on right before she died.
STEVE: I'm afraid so.
ISAAC: Did you have something to do with her death?
STEVE: Absolutely not. What? Are you joking right now? I had nothing to do with her dying. That was all on account of her drinking. She was upset and I may—she was really upset and how was I supposed to know what was going to happen?
FUDGE: Steven I think it's time you told me what happened, now.
(Lights come up on Aileen just hours earlier as she drunkenly stumbles into the pastor's office. She is holding the same bottle that Isaac found behind the shelf; she is very upset.)
STEVE: Aileen?
AILEEN: No no no Steven don't see me like this please don't see me I'm so sorry—
STEVE: What's goin' on I need you to talk to me now.
AILEEN: It's my fault Steve it's my fault Elise died.
STEVE: Elise killed herself that wasn't your fault, Darlin', you're drunk Aileen you gotta stop hittin' that bottle now. That's for rememberin' the blood of Christ—you're rememberin' the blood too many times there—
AILEEN: No it's my fault. I talked to her at the picnic back at Easter. I told her everything about me.
STEVE: Aileen...what do you mean everything...slow down so I can hear you, will ya?
AILEEN: I've been so stupid, I cannot believe I have actually made every single wrong decision I could have. I reckon I just screwed it all up.
STEVE: Aileen you don't screw it all. Tell me everything you told Elise.
(She looks at him for a moment; lights up on Elise who is standing under the tree.)
ELISE: Aileen...what do you mean everything?
