"You were so cool," Sasha said to me, when we walked into the cafeteria. A lot of people looked in our direction but I didn't care. I had so many people on my side and that was all that mattered. We sat down at our usual table and soon after, Noah and Spencer joined us. About half of lunch passed when Connor walked up to us. He hadn't hung out with us recently and I could guess it was because of something between him and Amelia. Connor had begun to hang out with some of the art club students and didn't seem to engage in conversations with us anymore, so this was new.
"Hey guys." he waved, quite shyly. "Um... I thought you should know that I'm going back to New York. Tomorrow."
We all gaped at him. He was just going to leave? Even Noah looked upset.
"Why? How many times are you going to switch schools?" Sasha asked abruptly.
Connor shrugged. "New York's my home. My grandparents are here so I'll come back to visit soon."
"Will you come by Shakelicious to taste the newest and greatest milkshake creations?" teased Spencer. Him and Connor had become good friends during his short trip to Westchester City and I could see them continuing their bond, even being in different places.
"You can count on it," he replied. "I have to make sure NYC still has the better shakes." The last part was said with a chuckle.
"Never," Noah said, cracking a smile. Throughout this whole time, Amelia hadn't said a word.
Connor waved one last time. "I'll... catch you guys later, okay? Thanks guys. For helping me get used to this city. It's amazing here. Truly."
"Have a safe flight," I told him. With that, he turned around and left.
