Connor didn't show up to school the next day, so instead of going, I took a cab to his house. I saw him on the lawn. It brought me back to the time he had just arrived here. I paid the fare and ran out of the car. His back was towards me, but I recognized the familiarity of being around him.
"Connor?" I whispered. He spun around and smiled.
"Hey Amelia," he murmured in return.
I took a deep breath. "You're really leaving?"
He nodded, but then smirked. "You're really skipping school?"
"I had to say goodbye to you. And thank you. For everything you've done for me. Back in New York and here. Please come visit," I pleaded.
"I promise I will. You wouldn't miss me that much, right?" teased Connor, but I could hear the shakiness of his voice.
"I would. I'll miss you a lot. You're a great friend, Connor." I wrapped my arms around him in a hug. "See you soon."
"See you soon," he echoed. His arms were still around me, even as his taxi came to take him away.
