Damian's POV:

I loom over Cora. Her eyes are alight with challenge and defiance. I love that look, especially when it's aimed at me.

She shoves and yanks against my hold but my grip is stronger. Even as she struggles to get free, she's grinning. I'm sure my grin looks malicious as I keep her in place.

It takes much more struggling and a few more seconds after to get her to tap dejectedly at my hand. She blows a lock of hair from her face as I relent.

She mock pouts at me when I offer her my hand. A roll of my eyes breaks that facade into a grin. She accepts my hand and I pull her up without much effort.

"You got overeager, beloved." I inform as we get some much needed water. She huffs.

"I wonder who I learned that from." She says sarcastically.

"Then why was I the victor?" I question with a smirk.

"Because you were patient this time around. I have to say, I'm impressed." She compliments. It does actually sound like a compliment from her.

"Thank you. I had a good instructor. She just needs to take her own advice." I advise. She shakes her head as she finishes her water.

"Then I'll win next time." Cora says confidently.

"We shall see, Dear." I say. Her cheeks get just a little pinker.

Before she can respond, I hear her phone go off. She has specific ringtones for different people. I believe this one is for Rogers.

"Heya Betty Boop." Cora greets cheerily.

I can't hear what she said, but Cora's face falls. The red in her face dims significantly. Her eyebrows have knit together.

"Why would they publish that?" I hear Cora say quietly. I hear muffled talking on the other end of the phone.

"Yes, of course. I'll be right there. Bring an overnight bag. And, bring it too." I watch as Cora runs a hand through her hair, her eyes closing.

She hangs up and she's silent for a long moment. I observe her carefully. She clasps her hands together tightly. She doesn't look up when she speaks.

"Damian, is Mr. Wayne home right now?" She asks tightly. Her demeanor is highly concerning.

"He should be. Is Ro-, Charlotte staying over?" I ask, correcting myself.

"If it's allowed. Something kinda big happened and she's panicking over it." Cora explains vaguely. I nod even though she's not looking at me.

"I'd like to help, if that's alright. Whatever has her rattled is obviously not sitting well with you either." I state. She looks up at me and I see fear in her eyes.

"DC published a new comic. I don't think I'm gonna like what's in this one. But I need to be there for my friend anyway, because she's scared for me and I don't want her to be." She says, her voice cracking.

"If you're going to take care of Charlotte then I will take care of you. I will inform father while you go collect your friend. When you return we can look through it together and go from there. Okay?" I suggest. She lets out a heavy sigh.

"Okay. Thank you, Damian." She says, her eyes holding relief in place of fear.

"Anytime, Cora." I return.

We part ways and I head up to my father's study. Thankfully, I can already hear the keys of his computer clack away before I even knock.

"Come in." He allows once I do.
