Charles' POV

I was dreaming of something pleasant that I couldn't recall, then falling, yet again, through a blackness of space.

I fell like that for some time until I was dropped into a forest.

It was the same forest as last time, I could tell, but as I stood, I realized the family from before was missing.

There were birds chirping and a river nearby bubbling as it rolled over stones and slowly turned them to pebbles; I could even hear the leaves crunching beneath my feet as a breeze ruffled my hair.

Whatever this memory was, I could tell it was important. It was too detailed to be anything else.

Suddenly, a scream.

I turned in rapid circles, looking for any sign of the little girl from before, but she was nowhere in sight.

I couldn't find the direction the scream was coming from either, as it seemed to reverberate all around me.

I covered my ears painfully as the screams got louder, closing my eyes until I felt a gentle touch on my arm.

When I forced myself to look, I saw a blurring image of Lily in front of me, her hand outstretched towards me in a silent plea.

'Come with me.' I heard her voice say, though her mouth didn't move.

She didn't move until I placed my hand in hers and she turned into a blinding light in human form. I closed my eyes immediately, feeling a shift in the air around me until the screaming was overpowered by the sound of ocean waves and the burning scent of sea salt.

As I opened my eyes, I found myself in the great room from Lily's childhood, sunlight streaming through the open window, which Lily closed and drew a curtain over to block to intense brightness.

"Hello again." Lily turned to greet me, and I noticed she was in a yellow dress with a black collar. It was the first time I'd seen her in clothes that were not her own ruined ones.

"We're making a habit of this." I smiled thinly at her, relaxing in the, really very comfy, armchair.

"It seems so," Lily said with a calm nod. "Are you okay?" She asked, noticing my harsh breathing.

"Fine now," I answered, though she allowed me a moment to recover from the terrifying memory. It was difficult to tell if I was feeling my own fear, or hers.

Lily took the time to adjust the curtains just so to where they fell on the chair opposite of me, where she then sat and waited patiently for my breathing to calm.

"Well, perhaps now we could have that chat?" I suggested, leaving it for her to decide.

"Are-" Lily began to speak, cutting herself off when I happened to catch her eyes, my blue meeting her brown orbs for only a split second before she looked away.

"Are there more? Like... Like us?" Lily asked, timidly, as if she would upset me.

"Yes." I smiled, "Hundreds of thousands, all over the world." I told her, trying to hold in my excitement to some degree. I didn't want to scare her by being overbearing.

"How do you know?" Lily questioned, her eyebrows furrowing slightly, creating a small crease between them.

"I met with a man, Hank McCoy, a brilliant scientist who created a machine which amplifies brainwaves. It's called Cerebro." I chuckled with amusement at the name once more.
