"She'll be fine." A voice filtered in through the blackness.

'Why's it so dark?' I thought to try to open my eyes.

'Please don't let that be a dream.' I thought finally winning the battle for sight.

The first thing I saw was the pure white ceiling, then my eyelids as I adjusted to the light.

Opening my eyes again I quickly scanned my surroundings. Everything was pure white and clean, a sight I was not used to, but a relief to see.

'Not a dream.' I sighed happily, feeling a soft material surrounding me.

"You're awake." A voice said shocking me.

Bolting upright, eyes wide, I saw a man with glasses and an awkward look about him.

Sighing in relief, I closed my eyes and took a moment to regain my wits.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"

"No, it's fine, just shocked me is all. I didn't see you." I said, laughing at my jumpiness.

"How long was I out?" I said remembering my, well... tantrum.

"Somewhere around three hours." He answered calming down a bit.

"Do you want me to get Charles?" He asked getting up.

'How sweet.'

"Yeah, but, what's your name?" I said having a feeling that he was Dr. McCoy.

"Henry, but you can call me Hank." He said with a kind smile.

"You wouldn't happen to be Hank McCoy by any chance, would you?" I asked, hoping I wasn't embarrassing myself.

"Yeah I am, why?" Hank asked with a curious face.

"Charles talks about you very fondly," I said with a warm smile, happy to meet another mutant who's so kind.

Blushing a bit, Hank mumbled something incoherent.

"I'll go get him." He said walking to the door.

"No need." A kind and familiar voice said as the door opened, revealing Charles himself.

Hank, feeling the need to leave, exchanged goodbyes with both myself and Charles and closed the door behind him.

Walking over to me, Charles sat down in a chair by my bedside.

"How are you feeling?" He asked putting a cool, soft hand to my forehead, as if checking for a fever.

"I feel great, thanks to you. And thanks for leaving the curtains open." I said pointing to the windows with small rays of sun pooling in.

"Sunlight makes recovering far easier," I said, my light Irish accent shining through with gratefulness.

"I'm glad." He said with a warm and gentle smile.

...

"I wanted to say I'm sorry about what happened earlier, I just, can't believe I was in there for so long," I said, tears making there way to my face slowly.

"Hey now, don't cry... it's okay, your here now." Charles said taking me into a gentle but comforting hug.

"Don't worry, I've got you, your safe now." He comforted rocking me side to side.

'...You're safe ...'

After a minute or two I calmed down and Charles wiped the tears from my face.

"Now, how about we get you cleaned up, eh?" Charles said standing up, giving me a small smile.

Nodding my head, I pulled the blanket off of me and slid myself to the edge of the bed.

Putting my bare feet on the cold ground, I stood up with a chill.

My eyes turned a warm brown and the room was heated in seconds.

"Mutant," I said, accepting the term.

"Mutant and proud." I smiled walking to the door.

Jogging in front of me Charles opened the door and waited for me.

"What a gentlemen." I laughed walking passed.

Charles, grinning like a child, closed the door and walked side by side with me through the seemingly endless halls.

"So your only 24, and a professor?" I said with a giggle, laughing at how he cringed.

"Well, you're no dim bulb, and you're only...how old are you?" Charles stumbled.

"What month is it?" I asked with numbers flying through my head.

"October." He said.

"21..." I said, trying to convince myself I was wrong. So simple an answer couldn't be wrong though... Fact: 15 plus 6 is 21.

"I'm sorry." Charles said putting a hand on my shoulder, stopping me.

"No, it's okay, just... it's weird, I'm an adult now." I said pulling myself out of the paradox of math I was trying to create. "Thought I'd be done with college by now, out looking for people like me."

...

"But hey, I can drink now! And maybe it's for the best." I said, giving a small smile, starting to walk again.

"How do you figure?" Charles asked.

"I didn't have to travel the world, you found me." I smiled fully, my eyes shining with silver and orange.
