Kayla's PoV:
I accept my fate on the ice as I fall for the seventh time, resolving to stay on the ground this time and not pointlessly get back up. As I lay on the ice staring at the ceiling, Damien comes around and stops next to me, kneeling down, "Everything okay, love?" he asks as he laughs, clearly seeing the defeat in my eyes.
"I am less coordinated than a water buffalo. Just leave me here to wallow in the cold," I sigh dramatically as I remain sprawled against the ice.
"You do know laying down like this is a good way to get your fingers sliced off, right?" I immediately sit up, curling into the fetal position as Damien laughs and sits next to me, pulling me into his lap. "Don't worry, Little One," he whispers in my ear as he holds me protectively, "You're safe with me, always. Now, do you want to sit here more and let my ass get even more numb, or would you like me to teach you how to skate backward?" I giggle and snuggle even deeper into his strong arms.
"You're warm... let's stay here for another minute, and then maybe I'll let you teach me how to skate forwards!" He chuckles and kisses my forehead as I relax into him, genuinely enjoying the stress-free environment we are in. No nosey teachers looking in to question my mental stability or ask me to 'talk to someone', no classmates to look at me sideways from exploring a dynamic with Jasper and Gemma to falling gently into whatever the hell Damien and I are. Simply just Damien and I, two individuals who care about each other and are willing to meet each other where we are at.
"Okay, I swear, as much as I love having you shaking in my arms, I would prefer it to be from desire rather than cold. Let's get up before you get hypothermia," He gently pushes me off of his lap and stands up, holding his hand out for me to grab. Rather than fighting him as I would in a sassy attitude, I softly grab it and allow myself to be lifted up to my feet, his hands immediately going to my waist to stabilize me. Keeping his hold on my waist, he spins around me so my back is pressed against his chest. I grip onto his forearms as he holds my waist, every micro-movement feeling like I am about to fall over.
"Promise you won't let me fall?" I ask, nervous about landing on my already sore ass once again.
"Do you trust me?" He asks as he leans next to my head, his lips brushing against my ear.
"That wasn't a promise."
"What's wrong, baby girl? Scared of a little danger?" He punctuates his question by gently nibbling on my earlobe. I sigh and lean back into his touch, eager for more, but before I can even process what is happening, Damien is putting pressure on my waist and pushing me forward as he skates around the emptying rink.
"Oh shit! Too fast!" I squeal as he speeds around a curve, nearly flinging me around the rink. His only response is a laugh as he maintains the speed we are going, allowing me to grow accustomed to the feeling of the wind on my skin and the ice under my skates. I relax in Damien's hold, trusting him completely as he leads us around a few more times before an employee calls for 'final lap'. He skates us skillfully around the rink one last time and then guides us to the door, allowing me to make it to the solid ground first, "Damien-that was- and then we were-and I-"
Before I could continue my rambling, Damien pulls me in by my waist into a breathtaking kiss, clearing my mind entirely. "I do believe the words you were looking for was, 'fun as hell?'" I nod and smile widely, enjoying every moment.
"How long were we on the ice anyways?"
"About two hours, Just in time for us to go for lunch. How does food sound to you?" I nod, honestly excited for anything Damien has planned for us today. We take our skates off and return them to the front desk, as we walk out hand in hand. "So... " he looks at me with an evil glint in his eye, "have you ever driven a motorcycle before?"
Oh shit
